For those who have kept up with my “Must Have” list, I did not include the Results/Recovery Formula on my list of supplements during Round 1. I tried it, loved the flavor, and definitely loved the fact that it replenished my energy and kept me from dragging all day long after a hard morning workout. What worried me was the sugar content, so I stopped taking it. It has 39g of carbs and 220 cals per serving. I was trying to lose a lot of weight and feared this product would slow my weight loss. I went the whole rest of Round 1 without it.
I decided to add it back into the arsenal for Round 2 because I am at my ideal body weight, and that recovery boost sure helps me feel on top of my game the rest of the day. I also have learned more about the specifics of the ingredient list, and I’m impressed with the science behind this product. In hindsight, I wish I had kept taking it during Round 1 because I feel like I would have still lost just as much weight, but I would have felt so much more energized while doing it! During Round 2, I haven’t had any problems with gaining body fat — in fact I’ve continued to lose a little more body fat despite taking the Results/Recovery Formula and increasing my calories to 3,200 per day!
Here’s what I’ve learned after researching the P90X Results and Recovery Formula, that I want to pass along to you all:
1) It has a lot of sugar in it (which is what originally scared me), but it’s fructose (fruit sugar), which is actually a very good type of sugar for our bodies.
2) It has 10 g of protein (giving this product the ideal 4:1 carb to protein ratio for post workout absorption)
3) It has the key ingredients creatine, arginine, and glutamine, which all facilitate muscle recovery and energy replenishment.
4) It has an excellent balance of electrolytes and vitamins to replace what has been depleted during exercise.
5) It is NOT the same as Chocolate Milk. On many discussion boards, folks say to substitute chocolate milk for the R/R Formula since you get similar carbs/protein ratio. However, chocolate milk does NOT have the electrolytes, the amino acids, the vitamins, the antioxidants, or the electrolytes, so it will NOT provide the recovery that the R/R Formula will.
Many who have used the Results/Recovery Formula report that it didn’t slow down their weight loss and body fat loss at all, and in fact since it replenished what was most needed in their bodies after a workout, it actually left them feeling more satisfied and less hungry / tired the rest of the day.
Like I said, I am now a firm believer in the Results/Recovery Formula after using it non-stop for the last 2 months and seeing / feeling the results in myself. I love the way it makes me feel. No more post-workout fatigue. I still take my post-workout shake (Shakeology, Whey, and peanut butter), but I delay it 45 minutes since I take the R/R formula immediately following the workout. There’s nothing like an orange-sherbet treat for a job well done on the workouts!!
At about $1.50 per serving, it’s a pretty affordable way to kickstart the muscle recovery process and get the most out of your workouts.
My mixing tip = I like to throw 2 scoops of the R/R powder in the blender with 16 oz of water and 18 ice cubes for a super-cold, frothy orange drink. It’s also nice to have a little mixed in my water bottle during Insanity cardio days!
