I have 5 kids, and not a day goes by that I don’t give some sort of “Get Along!” speech LOL!  But it’s not just kids that need to hear it!  We all do!  And since becoming a Beachbody coach and getting a little bit of notoriety from teamRIPPED, I’ve seen first hand that not everyone thinks we should get along!

About 9 months ago I wrote an article in which I compared my experience with P90X to my experience with Crossfit.  I had made a New Year’s Resolution for Jan 1st, 2010, to stop being lazy and to get in shape.  I joined a gym and started doing Crossfit 5 days per week.  After 2 months I was burned out, hated the drive, hated the “warmup” run outside in the icy parking lot in the dark at the 5am class, hated trying to do pullups in front of the whole class, hated finishing last in every workout, hated the inflamed rotator cuffs I was getting from the plethora of overhead squats, snatches, and powercleans — my New Year’s resolution was about to get chucked out the window!  And while I may have improved my fitness, I wasn’t looking any better or losing any weight.  There was no nutrition plan or supplement strategy.  I was lost and floundering.  But in a last ditch effort to not throw in the towel, I decided to try P90X.  I took the now-famous Day 1 photos February 27, 2010 (which were also my “2 month” progress photos from Crossfit — or more accurately “non-progress photos”).  Clearly I wasn’t getting ripped!  But I figured that I’d at least see if P90X could keep me from falling completely off the wagon.  The rest is history.   It was a perfect fit for me!

Now, does this mean that Crossfit stinks?  Of course not!  It does, however, mean that Crossfit wasn’t a good fit for me.  It didn’t give me the results I wanted.  It made me dread working out.  For others, however, Crossfit is a great fit.  They love working out with others, away from their house, where they can get more into it mentally.  For those who are committed to Crossfit, I say GREAT!!  Go for it!  Be healthy and fit!

And the same goes for the gym.  For those who have success with a gym membership, working out on their own and developing their own workout routine to keep their results going, I say GREAT!  Go for it!  Be healthy and fit!

I don’t criticize people who are successful with Crossfit or the gym.  I’m glad they’ve found something that’s a good fit for them.  What’s odd, though, is that I get a lot of backlash from non-P90Xers.  The gym folks laugh at P90X and think that there’s no way I am as strong as them from “working out in my living room”.

And while that’s a little annoying, the worst is the constant barrage from Crossfitters.  Apparently my old article still shows up high enough on search engines that the Crossfitters see it and then feel the need to start bashing me.  I even get quoted in lots of Crossfit blogs (as if I’m someone famous LOL!) — the way I know this is because my website will get a pingback when other sites quote my content.  These Crossfit guys will bash me and P90X in their blogs as if we aren’t actually getting in shape.  They claim they would crush us in their coveted Crossfit games (which is probably true since we aren’t trained in how to do a swinging kipping pullup — we actually use our lats and work the back and arm muscles when we do pullups — that really slows us down!  …. I digress….).  See the pic to the right to see what is typical of Crossfitters — insulting people who workout using a different system than theirs.  Us P90X-ers don’t (and better not!!) start playing that game.  That’s not going to encourage anyone to join us and get ripped.  It’s just going to make people think we are pompous jerks!  Let’s just stick to getting results, showing people our results, and inspiring them to do it too!

When various Crossfit bloggers insult me by name, I often will go to their blog and offer up a friendly reply, always being sure I point out that we are all on the same team here — helping people get healthy and fit.  And I always mention that talk is cheap, but results speak.  I give them the link to the YouTube teamRIPPED P90X Results video showing what my Hall-of-Famers have accomplished with P90X and Insanity, and I tell them that I’d love to see some of their results as well.  …… silence (imagine cricket noises here LOL).

Without fail my comment and video link get removed from their blog.  What are they afraid of? Evidence doesn’t lie.  If they are seeing great results with Crossfit, GREAT!  I’d love to see it!  If they are seeing great results in the gym, GREAT!  I’d love to see it!  I have a whole team of folks seeing AWESOME results with P90X and Insanity … and I’m PROUD to show them off because that’s what inspires others to join us and get healthy too.  I don’t just talk about why P90X and Insanity work.  I show the PROOF!  It’s hard to argue against evidence when it’s staring you in the face!

Speaking of evidence, meet the founder of Crossfit, former gymnast Greg Glassman (who is in his early 50’s, just like P90X founder Tony Horton).  Need I say more! LOL:

Don’t get me wrong … like I said, I have nothing against people who are having success in the gym or with Crossfit.  I don’t seek them out and criticize their methods.  I do, however, offer an alternative to people who have tried the gym and/or Crossfit and gotten discouraged with a lack of results.

Remember, we are all in the same boat — we are trying to get healthy, get fit, and encourage others to do the same.  And most of us (at least those of us who plug into teamRIPPED) have found that Beachbody products like P90X and Insanity have enabled us to do that better than anything else we’ve tried.  But let’s be an encouragement to everyone to get fit, no matter what method they prefer!

Bring it!
