In each of my rounds I have had a goal …. a target to shoot for.  I believe that setting goals and writing them down is the key to moving toward them.

I set out in Round 1 to lose 30 lbs of body fat.  I lost 43!

In Round 2 I set a goal to fine tune my results and really get shredded.  I’d say I did that!

In Round 3 I wanted to get stronger.  I finished with higher weights and reps in all categories.

And in Round 4, I wanted to pack on some lean muscle mass.  2 months into it, I’m hitting my marks.  I am weighing in at 217 (up 9 lbs), and to my surprise my body fat hasn’t increased as much as I was expecting with a 3,600 calorie diet!  My body fat is only at 7%.  So far so good … but remember, I wanted to get over 220 by the end of Round 4.

Well, I’m faced with a dilemma.  As much as I’d like to continue with my Mass Building Round 4,  I’ve had a new opportunity come up that requires me to shift gears temporarily.  I still have 5 weeks left of Round 4, but I just found out that in March I will have the privelege of being at a Beachbody event with all the BB big dogs.  It’s a big 7-day event — okay, okay, it’s a BB cruise that I won tickets to for my success as a coach!  (thanks to all of you btw for making that possible!)

But here’s the big deal — while on the cruise, I will get to work out with the man, Shaun T, FIVE times!  Two things come to mind immediately =

  1. I need to be in the best cardio shape I can get into between now and then, and
  2. I want to look ripped and shredded, not bulky. I’ll be spending 7 days on a cruise with these BB big dogs, and I’ve got to look my very best!

When I started this mass building round, the timing would have been perfect to gain size, then get ripped again before summer.  But now I’ve got to be ripped in March!  So, as much fun as I’ve been having with the big lift days, light cardio, and stuffing myself with 3,600 calories per day, I need to change course and put the Mass Building Round on hold.  I will probably do an entire new Mass Building Round — a complete 90 days — after the spring and summer season (starting in Fall).

For now I’m switching gears and going for RIPPED.  And with the upcoming release of Asylum, I’m dying to jump into that as soon as it comes out.  Asylum won’t be a mass-building program but more of a sports conditioning program to help me jump through the roof and get in crazy cardio shape.  So the timing will probably work well to go into a new Mass building round in the fall, after a spring and summer of getting ripped and going through Asylum.

For those of you who have been following my progress with mass“>building mass, I’ve had good success.  I am sitting at 217 right now (up from 208 at Day 1), and although I had a setback when I got sick and tried to push through (thus staying sick for over a week LOL!), I bounced back and have regained all of the weight I lost.

My hope is that by the cruise, I’ll be a super ripped 212, thus keeping the lean muscle I’ve gained so far during Round 4 but shedding off the bit of fat and getting down to 6% or lower on the b.f. like I was a few months ago.

And for those of you who want to see what I look like at 217 lbs, here it is.  Coach W’s Day 330 pics:
