P90X2 is designed as the next step up from P90X.  You have to use multiple coordinated muscle groups synergistically to perform the exercises.  That’s why it’s advised that to get the full benefit of X2, you should have already completed P90X or Insanity to have a firm fitness base.

HOWEVER….  does that mean it’s a MUST??  We have seen for years that even though P90X is advised for people who are already at a certain level of fitness, many with the heart to do their best have jumped in — over their head — and still had awesome results by modifying, making necessary adjustments, and never giving up.  The same is true of P90X2.  While it helps to be a recent P90X graduate, I’m already seeing that it’s not a MUST if you are willing to modify, do your best, and forget the rest.

Check out Les B and read his story.  He had done P90X back in 2010 (over 2 years ago), but then a series of tragic family events led him to give up on his fitness and he had gotten quite out of shape.  But his wife bought him P90X2 as a Christmas gift (December 2011), and so he figured he’d give it a shot with total commitment and see if he could survive.

Not only did he survive, he got AWESOME results!  He admittedly had to modify all the complicated moves.  But that’s the great thing about P90X2 (just like P90X) — there are “modified moves” that show how do perform the exercises with just bands or without the stability balls / medicine balls.  Les took advantage of that approach so that he could still do P90X2 and improve his fitness.

Now that he’s completed a round, he’s ready to go back through X2 a second time, without the need to modify everything, and take it up to a whole new level!  That’s a perfect example of doing your best and forgetting the rest!

Check out his results!

Les’s story =

My name is Les, I am a 34 year old dad who likes to play golf, basketball, tennis, and softball. I also have a son turning 2 this month, and another boy on his way this July. We are super excited!
I had a son named Eli who was born in 2008, but then God decided to take him away from us in 2009 due to bacterial meningitis. As depression set in, I inherited bad eating habits and got out of shape. Of course, I had an excuse to just give up on life and not care about my health, but i know you only live one life and you must live it to the fullest…
In 2010 I did p90x and got good results, but didn’t really dial it in with the nutrition.
(I apologize for the sob story, and this may not be the best forum, but I just want you to know where I’m coming from.). Then in late 2010, I lost my dad to a stroke. Soon afterwards I stopped the workouts and the poor eating habits came back.
My wife purchased p90x2 for me (it was on my Christmas list) in December 2011, and I am proud to say after 90 days I feel better than ever!
This time around, I brought it hard during the workouts AND i dialed it in with nutrition following the fat shredder plan (along with tracking everything on the myfitnesspal app)… also, i modified the HECK out of the program! chairs to help me do the pullups, no med balls for the pushups (just did regular pushups), pressed PAUSE a lot, etc…
Day 1: weight 171 lbs, body fat 20%
Day 90: weight 158 lbs, body fat 10%
Day 180 goal (also our due date): weight 160 lbs, body fat 8% (bumping up calories and going with the energy booster plan this time)
Thank you for your time coach wayne and thank you for your amazing advice and motivation. Your website is superb and I refer to it everyday.
Time to order a teamripped t-shirt!
Awesome job Les!  Way to represent teamRIPPED and the X2 Crew!!
I’ve found that even though I was in great shape going into X2, there was much about that program that I have yet to master.  I will be going through the entire 90 day program again for another round, and expect to do much better this time than I did the last time.  X2 really does tear the roof off traditional fitness programs.  The sky is the limit as you continue to work on form, balance, strength, and coordination.
So, can YOU do P90X2?  Only you can be the judge of that.  But if you are willing to work your tail off, use modifications when needed, and work to take yourself closer and closer to your goal every day, what’s stopping you?  BRING IT!  And then, BRING IT again!  …. and again …
