Our fast food, give-it-to-me now society is so obsessed with the quick fix that we’ve forgotten how to make a real change and have real results. Get on YouTube and you will be amazed at how many shortcuts and secrets there are to getting ripped and have that 6 pack.

News flash guys and gals … those gimmicks don’t work! If you want REAL change, you have to be willing to work for it.  And you have to be willing to commit to a lifestyle change, not just a short term solution.

I get emails all the time from folks who have been working out and following the nutrition for ____ days / weeks (fill in the blank — often only a couple weeks or less) and yet they haven’t seen the results they wanted or hoped for.  These people have most likely spent at least months …. if not YEARS …. getting out of shape, and now they are frustrated that they can’t undo it in just a couple weeks, or even a couple months. There would a lot fewer overweight people in our world if it was that easy and that fast! It is not rational. We have to learn to be patient and be willing to make a commitment to a new way of life, not a 3 month bootcamp with full intentions of going right back to our old lifestyle when we reach our goal.

Can we see relatively fast results with these workout programs, nutrition, and supplements?  Absolutely!  I had some of the best.  And I understand that we all want to see the results of the hard work we are putting in.  But trust me, if you are giving your all to a new way of life — exercising daily, eating right (with calorie tracking to be sure), and the right high quality supplements like Shakeology, you WILL see results.  You won’t undo years of bad choices in a few weeks, but every day that you stick to the plan you are 1 day further down the road to your new life.  Do what you know will work, every day, and don’t obsess with daily changes on the scale.

I get very nervous when people tell me they have everything in place to start 22MHC or Body Beast but they are waiting until “after the holidays” or “after a vacation they are going on in a few weeks”.  That tells me they see this as a quick fix (albeit a 3 month fix) rather than a new way of living their lives.  If being healthy is really a way of life, we should all want to start NOW if we haven’t yet.  And when vacations come, when holidays come, we plan for what (if any) things we will do differently to fit some splurges into our new way of life.

The 80/20 Rule of Fitness

Another group of people can get stuck over analyzing everything! These people can get trapped by trying to make it perfect. Maybe you have heard of the Pareto’s Principle: The 80-20 Rule. It states, 20% of a person’s effort generates 80% of the person’s results. It’s important to remember that the relationship between input and output are not balanced. You are going to get amazing results if you just get going. Run a deficit (tracking your food) and workout every day! The things we do to maximize your results, the last 20% of your results, are important too. But don’t let trying to get every perfect stop you from starting! Do the obvious things, and do them consistently.

Keep bringing it for life people!  And be an inspiration to all the “quick fix” people out there who are yo-yo-ing their way from diet to diet, gimmick to gimmick, and accumulating all kinds of goofy shake weights, ab rockets, and tennis shoes that supposedly tighten your rear end!
