P90X3 Workouts Review

So far this week, I have given you some of my initial thoughts on the first two blocks of the P90X3 Classic Schedule. Today I am going to go over Block 3 of P90X3. Tomorrow I will post on the Elite DVD workouts and the Recovery Week workouts I have skipped up to this point. I hope you are getting a good feel of what is in store with X3. Keep asking questions if you have them!

P90X3 Block 3 Workouts

The workouts found in block 3 are: Decelerator, Agility X, The Challenge, X3 Yoga, Triometrics, Total Synergistics, MMX, Eccentric Upper and Lower, and Pilates X. Much like phase 3 from the original P90X, Block 3 form P90X3 is a combination of weeks from Block 1 and 2.

The only workouts from Block 3 that you really haven’t seen from my reviews at this point is Decelerator and Pilates X. I will hit on Isometrix, Dynamix, and Accelerator tomorrow with the Recovery Week workouts. Check out Block 1 and Block 2 Reviews to read up on those.

  • Decelerator – Is explosive training that stresses the importance of the landing. As Tony says right away, most people get hurt when they are coming down from an explosive move. It’s a total body workout that has some pretty tough moves. You’ll be ready for it by Block 3 though. Many of the explosive jumping moves require you to land on one foot. Focus on your landings and make it pretty. Don’t beat yourself up if you stumble a bit. Everyone does! Touch off with your opposite foot and regain your balance. One tough one to watch out for is the Starfish Push Ups. Tony mentions it, but modify it by stacking your feet if you need to. Then work into getting your leg up as you progress. You will definitely be sweating at the end of this one!
  • Pilates X – I’ve never done Pilates before this, but it reminds me of a cross between yoga and an ab/core workout. I liked the variety and will look forward to Pilates X day on the schedule. I felt like it was good for body control, flexibility, and stabilizer strength. What I also like about Pilates X is that it’s not like any other Beachbody workout I have. I think this is going to be a good one to work into my hybrids as it’s pretty unique.

P90X3 Review So Far

I am really excited to see how P90X3 comes together as a whole. I have really liked getting to preview all the workouts. As with X2, don’t get discouraged if the balance components are really tough initially. You may not think you are getting the same level of workout or pump as you would from something like P90X or Body Beast. But stick with it! Those that fully committed to P90X2 saw amazing benefits. You really need to check your ego when you are working on more challenging functional moves. Get your form right and set goals each and every time. You will get better and see your numbers improve. Challenge yourself!
