My Crazy Summer!!

Summer!  I LOVE summer!  A break from the structure of school work, assignments, prodding the kids along every morning, etc.  Even though I keep going to work, it feels like I get summer break as well just cuz the kids get to chill out.

This summer is going to be a wild one for me though.  If you are only interested in workout-related articles, you can stop reading now.  But for those of you interested in what I’m up to, read on ….

First, in June I will get the honor of being recognized as the Beachbody TOP COACH at the annual Summit meeting in Las Vegas.  This should be quite the experience.  I will get an actual Championship Belt, much like a Prize fighter or wrestler would wear.  I’ll definitely post pics LOL!

But as big a deal as that is, there is something else that is in the works for our family (and has been in the works since last fall), that is definitely the central focus of our summer.  We are in the final stages of being able to bring home a boy from Eastern Europe who desperately needs a family.  We have cleared our slate to be able to make the necessary trips to go get him when the government gives us our appointment.

Those of you who know my family might be thinking, “Don’t you already have 5 kids??”.  Yes, we do!  But the question we asked ourselves isn’t “Do we need another child?”.  That’s not the right question.  We asked ourselves, “Does this boy need a family?”.  And he definitely does.

Xander is a 5 year old boy with cerebral palsy, who has spent his entire life in an orphanage.  His country has very little resources to care for special needs children, and so he cannot walk and is only able to say single words.  He simply hasn’t been taught.  He has no access to health care and the physical therapy his body needs.  He needs love.

I am totally convinced he will thrive in a loving family that can give him the care he needs.  He just needs a chance.  And God has blessed my family with more than we need.  We have room in our house.   We have physical therapy clinics all over our town.  We have food in the pantry.  There is no reason we can’t be a blessing to this boy.  And I KNOW he will be a blessing to us and our kids as well.

There is so much more I could say about this, but the point is that this adoption is the #1 priority for me right now.  Depending on when we get the call to go, y’all may have to tend to yourselves for a couple weeks LOL!  You may not get lightning fast responses like you are used to.  But you can keep Bringing it, right??  I know you can do it!

It’s funny how this whole adoption thing wasn’t even on my radar 2 years ago when I was fat and out of shape.  I didn’t even have the energy to keep up with my own kids …. much less have the capacity to consider taking on a bigger challenge.  But because I’m healthy, fit, and have the flexibility that this coaching opportunity has provided me (both in time and financially), I can take the blessings I’ve received and be a blessing to others.

That’s what it’s all about.  In your own lives, I encourage you to do the same.  Pay it forward.  Make a difference in the lives of others.  There is no greater joy than knowing you can make a difference.

And while it looks like I’ll be working out in the garage now (My cool workout room will become Xander’s bedroom) … I will still be bringing it just as hard as ever!  And I better … I’ll have 6 kiddos to keep up with!  No time to get lazy LOL!

God Bless and congrats on making Xanders life a better one! He will be blessed to be joining to have loving parents and I know that its going to be an amazing time for you and your whole family.:)

Phenomenal. Forget your physique and discipline. This is what everyone should admire you for. I've always thought "how does he do it?". You've taken that to a completely new level.

This is fantastic. God bless you and your beautiful family!

Awesome bro! Continue to resound the Gospel around the world!

Coach, if you're moving to the garage, please oh please don't scratch the stang!!!! Lol

Hey Coach. You continue to inspire by not just your insane physical results, but your attitude to life, your willingness to help somebody in need, and by the selfless sacrifices that you make everyday for others. I truly aspire to have these qualities.

Not only have you been my mentor (i've been telling everyone who will listen about you), you are now my hero. God, please continue to bless this man and his family.

That's amazing Coach. God bless you, Anita and your family. All the best.

Coach, What a great thing to do. Thanks for sharing your adoption story with us. I'm sure your family will be blessed by Xander.

Wayne, You truly are a blessed man. 5 kids of your own, top beachbody coach, big house, food in the pantry lol. You are the american dream my friend. Thanks for writing these articles. And god bless you that you are takin in Xander for the summer!

Wow coach! Good luck, i hope everything works well with the new addition. Adoption of a high-needs child is no walk it the park! That is a major commitment! May God give you and your wonderful family all the strength and wisdom to successfully handle all the changes and challenges coming your way. And all the little joys as well. It's the little things that make it so wonderful :) Enjoy your summer

AMAZING COACH! You are amazing.. You have a huge heart and overall a great man. Not many people would take on a challenge of taking care of a child with cerebral palsy especially if you already have 5 kids. You reap what you sow! You are in for so many more blessings from god.

Coach Wayne; I did a fair amount of research before deciding to commit to P90x. I'm a "all or nothing" guy. Once I knew the program was for me, I then started looking for a coach. Many things caused me to choose you as my coach. Your straight forward, no nonsense approach and knowledge. I was really impressed with the amount of time you spent carefully answering everyones questions and or directing them to read (or in some cases) re-read an article. However the single bigest thing was your faith in God. I just knew you were the correct choice for me. Today when I read your post about your upcoming addition to your family, I was thrilled for you. My wife and I have three wonderful children. Two are grown and our third is 12. Almost 13 years ago, my wife and I were blessed with our little girl. We had tried to have another child for years and it just didn't happen. Then one day, it did. Our daughter has Cerebral Palsey too. She is a brilliant child who is a consistent honor roll student. She is in a wheelchair, however that has never stopped her from doing anything. She has been more of an inspiration than words can describe. Sometimes it is tough for her to do some things but she finds a way. She is ALWAYS happy! She never gives up or complains. I know that God chose my wife and I for her and vise versa. I believe you will find the same for your new son. It is an honor to have you as my coach.

Sure lol. So any news on body beast?......

No new news on the Beast Al. Thanks for the kind words about the adoption!

And good luck with the adoption process. I'm going to school to be a physical therapist and know that your new family member will benefit greatly from PT services. Good luck.

Paleo is just the name. If you watch the video you will see that the current studies that have looked at high fat vs high carb diets and found that high fat improves health without having to track calories or exercise. I understand that you like to track what you eat but that is not normal for the typical working individual. Those who have tried high fat diets have lost weight regardless of caloric intake. And I also found it interesting that after you ended your vegan challenge you had gained 10 lbs. For that challenge I am assuming most of your calories were carbohydrates and would explain the weight gain. Just my two cents.

Hey Al, like we both know, you like the paleo diet and I don't. Gaining weight is simply a function of eating more calories than your body burns in a day. People can both gain weight or lose weight on a vegan diet. People can both gain weight or lose weight on a high fat diet. Since I love to eat by default, if I don't track what I eat to keep myself honest, I will gain weight. If you don't, that's great! There are many vegans that eat what they want and are typically quit thin. Like I said, let's just agree to disagree. We keep having this same back and forth every few days.

Coach Wayne - I saw your video first in the year 2010, and was blown away. Yes, your results were awesome, but what really got me was the fact that you are genuine and that really showed. I still cannot forget your "Accountability Crew". I knew you would be the person who will Coach and help me. I wasn't wrong, you're a good man! I said it at that time and I say it now, YOU ARE A GOOD MAN WITH A GOOD HEART! GOD BLESS you and the family!

Coach this site sums up what paleo is all about. Check it out if you want. http://www.dietdoctor.com/lhf

Hey Al, thanks for sharing ... again. Let's just agree to disagree. I don't accept the basis of a paleo diet. Were cavemen healthy? If they were, was it because they avoided wheat, rice, and root vegetables? Who can prove that they in fact avoided those things? And who can prove that cavemen sat around eating eggs, dairy, nuts and meat all day? I bet they actually spent most of their days starving! LOL! Certainly not pulled up before a buffet of high fat food choices like butter, sour cream, whole milk, and peanut butter. If cavemen really had a lower incidence of disease, what could be attributed to that? Diet? Perhaps. The fact that they didn't live long? Definitely. The fact that they didn't eat very many calories in the first place? Likely. We can go as far with this "mimic the caveman" thing as we want. You probably are familiar with the primal / paleo folks who actually advocate walking every day (since Mr. Caveman did), sprinting twice a week (since Mr. Caveman got chased by bears about twice a week), and lifting weights twice a week (since Mr. Caveman had to wrestle an elephant or whatever). To each his own. Stick to Paleo if it's what you believe in. I'll stick to what I believe in. Here's to our health! Watch out for the bears!

Hey Coach! Can you adopt me? haha (Don't post this, it's just a joke)

LOL Anthony! Sure I'll adopt you ... can you watch your little brothers and sisters while mommy and I go out?? ;-)

Coach - Congrats on the addition to your family. It truly is a blessing to be able to provide for another like that. My workouts have been put on hiatus for a little while (knee surgery), but when I'm all healed up I'll be back at it. And I'll be following your boards to stay current. Looking forward to getting back to 'work'. God bless.

What an amazing family Xander will be joining! You are an inspiration and blessing to so many. Thanks for being a great example! Blessings to you as you go through the adoption process.

Hey Coach, thanks for sharing. May God bless you, your wife, and kids for all taking the initiative to ask yourselves what more you can do to help others - wow! Also, I was curious - you mentioned that the coaching opportunity has helped facilitate this opportunity "both in time and financially" - have you scaled back or closed your orthodontics practice to coach full-time? Thanks for all you do! - Ollie

Hey Ollie, good question. I actually am bringing in a partner orthodontist at my practice which will free up my workload at the office a lot. He starts June 1st! I've been looking forward to this for a while!

Wayne, great article. I am honored to have you as a coach and friend. My wife and I are also in the process (18 months so far) to adopt an Ethiopian infant or 2. Frustrating at times with the waiting, but someday, I know we'll know why. May God bless you on this journey.

Wow ! It takes special people to do what you are doing. God bless you and your family Wayne.

Wow coach... what an example. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Coach, Thank you for putting together that webinar last night. I was starting to loose focus because the task of building my blog was eating up a lot of my time and very frustrating to say the least, but after I was remotivated and felt really relieved with what I was getting with the services that are provided!I'm hoping now that I have some very serious tools in my tool belt that I will be able to have a fraction of the sucess you have had.Take care

Your Truly a great person with a huge heart, Thanks for Sharing your story Coach (-:

Well, I know that you say your a coach so you can help others and that's very true you have helped more than you will ever know. And we love, respect and honor you for your example. But to help you and yours I want to challenge every team ripped member make that order they have been putting off. Buy shakeology or that next challenge pack you want to do anyway.
