Today I did the filming of PAP Upper for the The Next P90X workout program. It was awesome!
Wardrobe, hair and makeup (my hair didn’t take too long to do LOL!), the pep-talk from Mason, the “que-to-que” (where we make sure we are all facing the right way and transitioning correctly on the exercises), the quick run-through, getting mic’d up (in case we say something clever that they want on the final edit, or in my case to amplify my screams of pain!). This is real life show business! What a neat experience.
My outfit — I got to bring it in my very own blue tanktop (the same one I wore in my YouTube pullup video that makes me look huge! – cuz it’s a size SMALL LOL!). And to compliment that I wore powder blue shorts with a navy stripe. Very good looking wardrobe! I felt good – whether or not I could bring it, I looked the part!
The adrenaline I felt as I took the stage, under the lights, on the set, with Tony and the equipment and my castmates …. It was so surreal. I was really IN the workout. I’ve been watching the P90X workouts for a year now, and thanks to those workouts I have completely transformed my body. Now I get to be part of the sequel, the next installment of the most amazing, most popular workout system of all time. Words can’t describe how I felt today!
And something I didn’t know until today … PAP Upper (my workout) is #14 of 14 in the final sequence of this beast of a program. It is the finale! The peak! The MOTHA of all workouts!!! If there is any workout I would want to be in, it’s this one! And it was a CRUSHER!!!
Cameras, lights, ques. It’s all live, all non-stop. There are no breaks or cuts for rest or refreshment. It’s the real deal, unscripted, all the way through. I knew that going in and tried to have a few one-liners in my head in case Tony asked me a question.
My conversations with Tony during the workout — He talked about how I was the world’s biggest, most ripped orthodontist. He asked about his teeth and I told him I could do some invisalign and line those bad boys up for him! Haha!! He said a few things like “Dude, why don’t you get some veins”, and made comments about how this workout takes big muscular guys and destroys them! (IT DID!!) It was fun! I used a couple of the lines y’all recommended, like “living the dream” (Joel), “do work” (Paul), and of course most of the time I was just grunting and grimacing (not staged – true agony!!).
At the end Tony asked about my hair and I got to give a shout out to my wife with this line = “Bald heads are sexy … at least my wife thinks so!”. Tony answered with “Well, if your wife thinks so, that’s all that matters”.
Me and my new buddy / workout partner Robert H. (who is also 6’4”), had some fun with Tony. He started the workout on our shoulders as he did the intro. At one point Robert and I came up behind Tony and gave him a little stare-down from our higher vantage point. And since Robert and I were both drenched in sweat, we had fun giving Tony hugs as he tried to elude us at the end. It was good, P90X fun. Real. Hard. Spontaneous. I think it went well. Very well!
I lasted through all the exercises. I had no problem knocking out the power moves (2 towel pullups, renegade rows, hammer-presses, etc.). The isometric positions are my nemesis. They hurt so bad! I had to hold the sphinx position on the medicine ball for 60 seconds each round, which wasn’t bad the first 2 times but round 3 and 4 I was digging deep. Agony! I lasted though. And superman was killing me too. I did fine the first 2 rounds of that as well, but was struggling during round 3 (and of course that’s when Tony started coaching me up on it LOL!), and then in round 4 the arms weren’t listening to me anymore! I was trying with all my might to hold my arms up and they felt like they weighed 500 lbs! They were mere millimeters from the floor! But I made it.
I MADE IT!!! What a feeling! The sheer sense of accomplishment was unbelievable. I have been doing P90X for a year now, and it barely had me ready enough to survive this workout. That’s the crazy kind of elite level this new P90X will take us to. This is seriously going to become the standard in elite fitness training for athletes at all levels. It’s that good. It’s that complete. And it’s that well put together by the leading experts in the field.
We already see P90X being used by professional athletes in every sport. The Next P90X will be the new standard. Start pushing yourself now, cuz this bad boy will BREAK YOU DOWN and then build you into something you never knew was possible!!!
WOW!!!!!
