Hammer and Chisel was released on December 1. I was able to get a copy and have been working through a lot of the workouts! Our Hammer, Chisel, RIPPED Challenge group is set to kick off on January 4th! So in case you were waiting for my take before jump on board, here you go. The official Coach Wayne Hammer and Chisel Review :-)

Hammer and Chisel Overview from Coach Wayne Wyatt

Right away, this is a 60-day program built by Autumn Calabrese and Sagi Kalev. That is a cool first feature. I have really loved having 2 trainers! It’s a nice change of pace to work with the Beast on some workouts and then get my butt kicked by Autumn the next day. I think a lot of people will love this. For me, it really keeps it fresh.

The workouts are at most 30-40 minutes. Some are shorter, like ISO Speed Hammer at 25 and 2 ab workouts around 10 minutes.

For gear, you really will be set up well with dumbbells, a pull up bar, a few bands, and a bench. You can use a stability ball as a bench (like the modifier for Body Beast), but I still love the security of a real adjustable bench.

Hammer and Chisel Workouts

Instead of going into each and every workout (you get 14!), I want to just hit some highlights and my first experiences. I am only through about 7 workouts as well.

Overall, this has been nice to my knees! I can’t tell you how good that is. These workouts focus in on full body work with resistance. This is going to be an awesome program for shredding body fat and maintaining muscle. As always, your nutrition is key! More on that later.

Take Chisel Cardio for example. It is a resistance based workout with pull ups, dumbbell swings, etc. So it uses these big movements with things like burpees to get your heart rate up without having to do as much jumping as you’d find in a program like Insanity. The full body movements do an awesome job of challenging you!

On workouts that would challenge my knees (in not so good of a way), I just modify the moves that are an issue. One example would be Hammer Plyo. I can use moves like body weight squats in place of the vertical jump. I just focus on more reps to really get my HR up in place of the vertical jump. As with any program, listen to your body. Some moves feel ok, others let me know that I need to modify them. Hammer Plyo makes you go all out. You definitely get out what you put in here!

Hammer Power is an early favorite! You will get to clean, press, do thrusters, and more. Focus on form if you have never down cleans, but those of us that have played football will love getting back to some power cleans! You can add a barbell if you are really familiar with the moves, just keep it light until you are feeling good about the moves.

From what I have previewed, I love having two trainers. The total body and compound movements really get my HR up and tax my muscles. You will get great results if you bring it!

Hammer and Chisel Nutrition

By the book, this is based off of Autumn’s container system. I actually have been using it the last week to see how it would go. I lost 5#! Granted a lot of that is water weight, but it is really simple. Now before some of you tracking loyalist beat me up, there is more variation in a portion plan. What I like about the containers is that it gets people into tracking with an easy system. The list of foods for each container provides a lot of options and there are really good recipes in the H&C nutrition/program book. If you aren’t familiar with the portion plan, it’s like this:

You get a quota of the various containers for each day. Ex: Plan C 1800-2100 Calories – 5 Green / 3 Purple / 5 Reds / 4 Yellow / 1 Blue / 1 Orange

Then you makes meals to use all those containers throughout your day.

If you ate your regular chicken and rice for lunch, you’d fill 1-2 reds with cooked/chopped chicken, fill the yellow with cooked rice and away you go! Pretty easy.

Initial Take on Hammer and Chisel

I think this is going to an awesome program to use to get shredded! All the compound movements and total body workouts will shed the BF fast. If you couple that with the portion system or my favorite, full tracking, you are going to be a new person after 60 days. I would not miss out on this or my challenge group. I have no doubt we will have HUGE results to share!
