Coach W in LA!

Hey teamRIPPED nation! Coach W left the backwoods of Oklahoma to descend on the bright lights of Los Angeles, California!

My mission — to represent every over-the-hill, fat, out-of-shape, junk food junkie out there, cuz I’ve spent most of my adult life being one!  And I’m here to prove that you don’t have to stay that way!  On the 1-year anniversary of my P90X Day 1 pics, I find myself boarding a plane to LA for the rehearsals of the MC2 videos.  Oh what sweet irony!

It’s the culmination of a wild year … a year I can’t believe!  So much has changed, so fast, that it leaves me pinching myself to see if it’s all a dream.

And even though so many people see me as some sort of RIPPED stud now, I am much more familiar with the fat, self-conscious me that defined the last 15 years of my life.  And I’m NERVOUS!!! Do I really have what it takes to work out with Tony Horton?  Am I ready?  Why did they pick me from all the people they could have picked?  What if I can’t hang?

Does this kind of self-talk sound familiar?  Many of us do it.  I do it!  As I sit in the Denver airport waiting on my LA flight, I’m doing it right now!!

But then I remember my own advice that I find myself giving to you guys all the time.  I am not what others tell me I am.  I am not even what I tell myself that I am.  I am what God says I am, and He’s made me to reflect His image and glorify Him with my life.  If that isn’t reason to check the doubts at the door and BRING IT in everything we do, I don’t know what is!

I may not be able to sleep much tonight, but I’ll be ready to give it my all tomorrow!  It’s a full run-through of the workout so that they can #1) Make sure we can get through it without dying! LOL!, and #2) To prep for the lighting, cues, and camera angles.

Next week (assuming I don’t get cut after rehearsal!) will be the final shooting for the videos.  Wish me luck!  I’ve spent a year getting ready for this, so I’m prepared!  I’m ready to go get it!

And with 4,000 people checking in every day at teamRIPPED.com, I just need 1 second of energy from each of you to make it through a 1-hour workout!  I won’t let all of you down!

Bring it!

It occurred to me this morning while doing Back and Biceps and Tony tried to call a cut on the taping after Bobby said he “hated” corncob pullups. It would be a great addition and definately a laugh to have a DVD of outtakes from the taping and maybe practice sessions of MC2. Coach, I think you should suggest this. I’d definately pay to watch it, especially after I had done the program for awhile. You really start to think of the team on the screen as your friends. We watch Daniel gulp before he does a hard exercise on the bands, we cringe and groan like Phil at the end of the workout when we are doing straight arm weighted circles and you’ve been trying to work as hard as him. We moan in pain with Dreya doing toe roll iso lunges and laugh out loud when Tony gets hit in the face with the bands at the end of the workout because that is all real and you are feelin’ it at home while you are working out with your new or longtime friends on the screen.

Deanna, you are exactly right. In fact, that’s what Mason (the director) hits real hard with us — have fun, be real, push ourselves, and go with the flow! No cuts, no stopping and reshooting. We start the camera and go straight through. If we mess up, struggle, that’s what makes it real. And that’s why people at home connect with the people on TV. It’s not staged. It’s all real. The dialogue is spontaneous. Should be fun!

Coach Wayne, I appreciate your honesty about your struggle. I find myself wrestling with the same thoughts at work as a young director. Thank you for the reminder that we are who Jesus says we are.
