Hey teamRIPPED!
Boy, the X2 Crew results are quite impressive, aren’t they? I can blog and give advice all day long, but it’s real people with real stories of their success that truly inspire me. That’s the whole package — someone who has made a commitment, stuck with their commitment, put in the effort to dial in their nutrition, connected with others for accountability, and kept pushing play every day. So many people want to make it so complicated, but it’s really that simple.
EAT RIGHT. TRACK IT SO THAT YOU KNOW YOU ARE EATING RIGHT. HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE TO OTHERS. MAKE FRIENDS WITH OTHERS DOING IT SO THAT YOU ARE MOTIVATED AND WANT TO KEEP SHOWING UP. PUSH PLAY EVERY DAY. TAKE THE RIGHT SUPPLEMENTS. DON’T CHEAT YOURSELF BY EATING JUNK MEALS OR SKIPPING WORKOUTS. BREAK BAD HABITS. FORM NEW GOOD HABITS. AND VOILA! MAX RESULTS!!!!
The Misfits showed us it works. The X2 Crew showed us it works. If you are struggling, PLUG IN! Stop making excuses. You can do it, and we are all here to do it with you!!! Find one of our many Facebook accountability groups in the “Getting Started Right” tab.
Many of you keep asking me when I will make my X2 results video public. I have it set to go live within a week, so stay tuned and you’ll get to see it!
I had to get my back cut on again (follow up to the previous lesion that didn’t have big enough margins around it). Now I’ve got about a 5″ scar on my back. But it isn’t going to sidetrack me. I have learned my lesson about the danger of sun exposure though! From now on, when I need to tan for some progress pics, it will be a spray tan rather than the real deal LOL!!!
I hope everyone is enjoying their workout program of choice to get ready for summer! It’s gonna be here before we know it. Your friends will probably start asking you questions about what you are doing to get in shape as they start to face the reality that summer is almost here. Be sure you encourage them and offer to hold them accountable. You have the chance to pay it forward and help someone else change their health and fitness the same way that yours has been changed by me or others who have inspired you. That’s a great feeling!
On a personal note, a new gym opened up near our house this month. It’s called Lifetime Fitness. It’s like the mall with some exercise equipment LOL! The thing is enormous! We got a family pass for the summer so that we can take advantage of their pool. But this weekend I figured I’d take the kids (since they have a kids zone) and get some cardio work on the stair climber. I got ready in my workout gear and left my house at 1:30. I arrived back home at 3:15 (for those of you counting, that’s 1:45), and what did I have to show for my time? 25 minutes of cardio on the stair master. That’s it! 1:45 for a 25 minute workout! I can’t imagine how unproductive it would be if I tried to workout at a gym every day. By the time I drove, parked, got checked in, dropped off my kids, made the trek to the gym equipment, set the TV station and adjusted the machine to my program, I had already wasted 45 minutes. Then I had to go through the same process in reverse to get back home. What a discouragement! No wonder people don’t stick with it when going to a gym. Don’t get me wrong, the place is gorgeous. But I’m a busy guy, and if I set aside 1 hour to workout, I want to get a 1 hour workout. I don’t want to spend more time getting ready to workout than I do working out. Thank heavens for P90X, Insanity, Pump, and P90X2!!
And 2 favors that I ask:
1) If you like the hard work I put into writing my articles and videos, PLEASE help me out by sharing them. Click the share links below them and share them on FB, twitter, etc. It really helps me get more exposure and grow teamRIPPED!
2) Also, as always, remember that the way I benefit from being your coach is that I earn a commission from any Beachbody products that you purchase, as long as you buy them through my site, www.teamRIPPED.com, or by logging in to www.teambeachbody.com to do your shopping (If you buy from the plain beachbody site I get no credit). It helps with the amount of time I spend answering all your questions and helping you out. Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Keep bringing it and inspiring others to do the same gang!!
There are more than enough out of shape people out there that we could all be coaches and still have more people to coach than we have time for. Shoot, nearly half of Americans are going to be OBESE by the year 2020 or something crazy like that.
Wayne, i'm not sure how this is going to work in current gyms though...most current gyms barely have more than one location to do pull ups. and current gyms will see this as a conflict of interest against their current sell up model of personal training etc. trying to get 15+ people to do pull ups simultaneously will be impossible. the only way i see this working is in new gyms completely dedicated to p90x, but you're going to pay for it.
Hey Awaterz, I totally agree. Many gyms aren't equipped for big P90X classes, just like they aren't equipped for big Crossfit classes. The P90X certification isn't designed to make all gyms offer P90X classes. It's designed to go head to head with the Crossfit concept, except to offer MORE (an actual progression of workout programs from point A to B, a nutrition system, etc). P90X gyms will be like Crossfit gyms (old warehouses that are converted, etc). Only the larger gyms will actually offer P90X classes (just like with Crossfit). I still prefer working out at home, but the P90X certification is the last thing that Crossfitters want to see cuz P90X already has them beat at every other point of debate EXCEPT for those who just need to workout with other people. Now P90X will have that too!
Hey Coach! I am 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and I weigh 140 pounds. I am trying to drop by body fat really low, and I am currently doing Asylum. I am on the fat shredder plan eating only 1,500 calories a day. Do you think that I should bump them up or is it fine?
That's probably okay Birsa, but you'll just have to adjust depending on how your body reacts to that calorie level. Everyone's metabolism is different and you are a growing teenager so that factors into it.
insanity itself is hard enough, but i feel like the program could use several refinements in certain areas. i guess asylum (x) works because it is more like an addon than a part 2. anyway, to get in on the rumor mill, i think beachbody has plans to expand into gyms. why is there p90x certification? lots of social marketing lately hinting at this and i've seen a few coaches visiting gyms recently. could be way off base. i don't see how they will fit tons of pull up bars or machines into gyms though. imho current gyms do not have enough assisted pull up machines...it's the best piece of equipment in a gym and there's usually only one. this is why working out at home is so much more efficient...you don't have to wrestle for equipment.
I agree Awaterz that working out at home is one of the things I love most about P90X and the other BB programs. But for those who need the face to face interaction, P90X certification is going to open up the concept of P90X gyms (just like Crossfit gyms) where they can be situated for P90X classes.
Hey Brian, if you want to add a banana and milk to it, be sure you are tracking it in your nutrition tracking and that you aren't going over on carbs for the day. A bowl of oatmeal with banana and milk is a LOT of carbs in one shot.
Hey coach.. I am Planning to start having oatmeal first thing in the morning as a pre-workout meal, and I was wondering how you make your oatmeal? And also what brand and what type? (steelcut, instant, etc.)
Hey Brian, I just use Quaker Quick oats, and heat up 3/4 cup with some water in the microwave. Then I sprinkle some salt light on it and yum yum :-).
Hey Josiah, if you aren't getting at least 30-40g of fiber from your diet (which you can see if you are tracking what you eat), then yes, take a supplement like benefiber. You can mix it in your protein shake.
Hey Wayne I was a Lifetime fitness member as well here in chicago, yes it's a great facility but I found that I accomplished soo much more at home doing my one full hour of P90X that I soon cancelled my membership three years ago. Best decision of my life. Thanks for all you do and the motivation you provide! Keep bringing it!
Me too!! Beast looks amazing! Do you think I should prepare for it by doing a p90x/asylum hybrid to act as a cutting phase before i get super buff ;)
Hey coach... Please answer this question because it definitely isn't giving any details away... Are u more excited about beast or asylum 2
coach wayne, I'm new to p90x and the team ripped website. If I'm leaving for work around 0600 and am getting home around 2100 would you suggest getting my workout for the day done early in the morning or late night before bed? Thank you
Whenever possible Anthony, working out early is best = http://teamripped.com/early-morning-workouts
Hey Wayne, how do you measure how much muscle you've gained? Like if you gained 8 pounds in 3 months, how do you find out how much is muscle and how much is fat?
Hey Rick. It's simple. Track your body fat and lean body mass. http://teamripped.com/how-to-measure-b-f
Thanks coach, I meant the X several times and obviously X2 once and a bit lol, I think you get the gist :p Anyways I value your opinion on supplementation, and I have most bases covered. Whey protein is obviously readily available in any country from various suppliers, and same with RR like drinks, I'm currently using Body Science Nitrovol, along with a daily BSc multi. Despite this I've read countless testimonies about the benefits of shakeology. I viewed your video on the product and from all accounts it seems worth my while, is there anything on the market remotely similar, or should i just be patient and hopefully by the time X3 is out I'll be able to quench my thirst with some delicious green berry or chocolate lol. Thanks
Hey Michael, unfortunately there is nothing on the market remotely similar to Shakeology, so until the customs regulations are lifted for it to be shipped to you, you'll have to wait. Sorry!!! Keep bringing it!
I'm taking Quick Oat that i put in the microwave for 1 minutes with water. When it comes out, it looks like it pretty mushy and look like drywall. I guess it must be my way of heating it that messed up the taste. Do you only put hot water in it and let it sit before eating it?
Wayne, Do you eat your quick oat plain or you add anything to it? Was eating some this morning and just Oat with water it taste like eating dry wall lol. I don't wanna add sugar to it but just wanna add some taste to it while keeping it healthy.
Hey Dom, I cook my quick oats in water and then sprinkle a bit of salt light on it -- it's a mix of sodium and potassium. I think it tastes GREAT! If you think it tastes like dry wall, you either need to eat less sweets so that you get used to more natural flavors or you need to pick something else like toast with peanut butter or something to get some complex carbs.
Thanks Coach, that pull-up assist sounds perfect but I spotted a comment on the link you provided that answered my follow-up question - The only two doorways I can use my bar on are the normal indoor ones meaning I have to bend my legs. I guess Im stuck with the chair until Im strong enough to do without. During a set should I do to failure as normal and then use the chair or go to failure using the chair from the start?
Do as many unassisted as you can, and then use the chair to get more (I liked to make myself do 15 reps total).
Hey Coach, just wanted to say thanks for everything you do here. I've been working out for years and have looked pretty decent with a shirt on for some time, but I've never had a true "beach body." I've been doing your 1900 calorie diet for the last month or so along with doing your Reese's Shakeology every morning and am about to finish Asylum, and I look and feel better than I ever have in my entire life! I didn't think the results were that noticealbe, but more and more people keep asking me if I'm losing weight and how I'm doing it. This is the first time I've truly committed to the nutrition, and it's paying huge dividends now. Can't say thank you enough.
@Eric, There is nothing wrong with doing your best. I still go to my knees after I get tired and Ive been doing P90X for a while now. "Fight for millimetres!" Also as Coach pointed out there is the option of P90 which may seem basic but really worked for me in that it gave me that foundation to go and start P90X. Good luck! @Coach Wayne, I finally got a pull-up bar (not the official Beachbody one but an identical cheaper model (which bizarrely came with a Beachbody leaflet)). Im currently in week 4 so I dont get to start using it yet but I did have a go to see how many I could after weeks or using the bands. My question is similar to Harmans, that I "currently struggle with" pullups so I figured I would use the chair but as Im 6ft this means Im leaning back quite a bit, is this still the proper exercise (this applies to ALL the pullup variations)? Thanks in advance.
Hey Danny, the options to assist yourself while doing pullups are to use a chair or to use a chin up max = http://teamripped.com/gear/chin-up-max-assist Don't lean way back though. Bend at the hips so that your upper body is still in proper alignment, with one leg out in front of you.
Hey coach, I'm a p90x and X2 grad several times over lol, and have got reasonable results. My question is this, will beachbody ever make their supplements available internatioinal, seen as I live in Australia? Thanks man
Hey Michael, how is it that you've finished X2 several times? It's only been out long enough to finish one round. Anyways, yes, BB is working hard to get international customs approval on their supplements. But it takes forever to go through all the regulatory red tape, so Australia is still a ways off. First will be Canada and Mexico, then the UK, then the rest of the world.
Hey coach!! I know you mentioned you dont like gimmick diets (understandable). Here's my issue. Im 6'5" and 320+ lbs. Im having a terrible time making it through the workouts and feel like such a failure if I have to try to modify the workout (knee pushups, no jumping, etc.). Some people at work have tried a HCG diet and are having some success. Basically it is supposed to severely limit your sugar intake and "reset" your metabolism and hypothalamus? Have you heard of this diet and would you consider it a gimmick? If not a gimmick do you think Id have better luck just shedding was excessive weight then beginning the p90x workouts?
Hey Eric! 2 things = First, yes the HCG is a gimmick. It's a hormone. The reason people lose weight on it is they are eating 500 cals per day. They are literally starving themselves. The hormone shuts off your hunger sensors so you don't realize you are starving. But as soon as you go off the 500 cal diet you will gain it all back. Don't do that! Stick to a balanced, sensible diet like what I teach here. And second, P90X is probably not the right workout program for you. You should consider Power 90 or 10 minute trainer for now, while you start to get your diet right and shed the body fat. Then start P90X later when your body is ready for it. Bring it!!!
Heyy Coach im 15 turning 16 prettty soon, im doing p90x for the second time, earlier this year i started but didnt really get ripped results im trying it again and im seeing strenght gains and size and body fat loss, but i still cant to a pull up(wide grip), i can sucsefully do 1 chin-up, im rowing like 40's with impecable form, i dunno im on the 7th week and i wanna know will i be able to do atleast 3 when im done. I dont use a chair, i use a stability ball, just beause if it rolls away i can bring it back with my feet the chair thing isnt working for me, i do negatives for the last rep of my assited pullups i need help...
Sounds like you are working it Harman! It just takes time, and that's okay. Keep showing up, keep pushing play, and keep forcing yourself to do as much as you can, and you'll blow past 3 reps unassisted before you know it.
Hey Wayne almost finished with my round of X2! Just thought I'd say thanks for the laugh during P.A.P. upper during roller angel... for those of you that are not that flexible this is murder... "MURDER!"
Thanks doc, point taken. I'll continue with the program as is. No need to deviate from an already safe and proven nutrition plan right? I guess I'm just being impatient, I'll take things slow and let it do it's magic. "Inch by inch life's a cinch, yard by yard life is hard."
Hola doc, Is it okay to go 1-2 weeks with absolutely zero carbs and then slowly resume the normal carb intake required for the fat shredder diet? I'm wondering if I can do this to deplete my liver of as much of it's glycogen stores so my body can feed on more fat deposits. Or is this unsafe and I should let my body and the diet take it's course then everything will fall into place at the end of the 90 days?
Hey JR, what you are referring to is a ketogenic diet. Some really hype it up (but then again people are out there who hype up every kind of diet there is). In my opinion, keto diets are a gimmick diet. I don’t like gimmick diets (and I consider gimmick diets to be fasting, atkins, ketogenic, etc.). It’s so much better to learn how to effectively fuel your body with whole natural healthy foods in a steady manner so that your body has the fuel it needs to perform at it’s best. So can you do a keto diet? Sure. Would I? No! It’s not glamorous, but it works!!!!
Hope all goes well with your back, and as far as the gym i have not put my foot in one since becoming an X'ER Grad. There is really no need, Thanks to BeachBody.... And or coarse TeamRIPPED and your site.....
Coach Good to hear you are taking precautions before going in the sun. Also, I have never gotten the same pump, exhaustion or results then I do in my own garage with some adjustable weights and my P90X DVDs. I have no plans of losing valuable time in a traditional gym setting again! Bring it!!
sorry about the double post, our internet went out right around that time. dancing is out! i think i will go for p90x+ total body then. thanks wayne! btw please be careful in the sun. you owe it to yourself.
ok, that makes sense. that seemed to be the target demographic, but i just didn't know for sure. i totally agree...i know a few people that do crossfit. it's intense, but lacks structure, and competition instills sacrifice (no matter how much coaching you get on form). that's the one thing i fear about the p90x gyms...i hope they influence people tracking THEIR OWN NUMBERS and not posting them on a board or site like crossfit which is a recipe for dangerous activities. i sort of enjoy a gym for some variety every now and then, but always gravitate back home for BB workouts due to efficiency. i could see myself enjoying a dedicated p90x gym. i wonder, since i have been considering becoming a coach, how this will impact new coach potential? potentially wouldn't local trainers take some 'customers' you could have snagged online? just food for thought really. thanks for all you do.
