X2 Crew – Mims

Mims may not have the tech savvy to do a video just yet, but he has the goods!  He absolutely destroyed P90X2 with our X2 Crew, and his pics tell the story.  Check out what 90 days of the Deuce did for Mims!  Even though he had been working out with all sorts of programs for years, it wasn’t until he got the whole package with P90X2, an accountability crew, and a locked down nutrition plan to really get him the results he had been chasing.

Mims Day 1 of P90X2 vs. Day 90 of P90X2 =

Mims’ Story =

My story is very similar to many stories of those who have completed P90X, P90X2, and other Beachbody programs. However, as many similarities as there are, there are an equal number of differences. Like so many others, I was a competitive athlete my entire life. I played football, baseball, soccer, basketball, and ran track as a child. I was even fortunate enough to play college baseball at Louisiana Tech University as a scholarship athlete. Of course, in those days, I could eat and drink anything I wanted and never miss a beat. However, again like so many others, those days did not last. After graduation from college (and the end of my days as a competitive athlete), I was accepted to physical therapy school in New Orleans. Obviously, I became much more sedentary attending class from 8:00 to 5:00 on a typical day and studying for the remainder of the day and night. It was at this time, I began to gain weight. I would try to combat the weight gain with vigorous bouts of “chronic cardio” on the elliptical and treadmill, but as we all know, you cannot outwork poor nutrition. And here is the first difference in my story. Unlike many, I never stopped working out. I would work out 1.5 to 2 hours at a time. I performed CrossFit Workouts, SealFit Workouts, and yes, Beachbody programs (including insanity and P90X). Looking back on it now, I think I was overtraining. 1.5 hour resistance sessions in the morning. Then “chronic cardio” (45 min to an hour at a time) in the evening after work. This was my typical routine 5-6 days per week. However, I payed very little to nutrition and thus made no progress. I was, at best, maintaining my current fitness level. I knew something had to change. I then heard about the upcoming release of P90X2. Having been a graduate of P90X and having experienced success with it in the past, I knew this was my chance. I pounced on the opportunity. When performing research on this new program, I found teamripped. Through Coach Wayne’s very informative website I  began to learn everything I could about nutrition. I knew this is where I needed to change. I learned what to eat, when to eat it, how much to eat, and maybe, most importantly, what not to eat. I learned how to taylor my nutrition plan to my specific goal. I learned how to become lean or how to gain mass. I learned what worked for me and how to fit that into my schedule (as we are all busy and have multiple obligations). Upon receiving P90X2, I put my plan into action and, as they say, “the rest is history”. 90 days later, I am a new man. I have more energy. I look better. I feel better. I am more confident. And, I am now equipped with the knowledge to help others achieve their goals as well.

Mims that's perfection, I've read that you followed the 1900 calorie diet. From the pic we might be the same built so I was wondering what your height is and what you weighed before you became a crazy man. If we are similar, I'll hit the 1900 calorie diet as well. And while I am at it, did you increase the calorie amount as you got into the later months of training? Thank you.

Mims what supplements did you use?

Yes, I am totally serious! They aren't jealous about my body, they are seriously concerned with my new lifestyle. I use a small scale and measuring cups/spoons to track all my food, I was told that I have OCD. I push myself really hard during workouts, particularly Plyocide, I am gasping for air towards the end. I even became nauseous and wanted to throw up one time, but at that point I stopped immediately and rested the rest of the day. Some of my friends think I have an exercise addiction, but I don't particularly enjoy exercising even! It's gotten to the point now that I try to exercise when nobody else is inside the house. They really make me feel bad about myself, like I'm doing drugs or something. They tell me things like I have an addiction to exercise and that I am wearing out my joints and will have arthritis and other problems when I get older. They tell me I am being too extreme, that I should do all things in moderation. Hell I even stopped drinking alcohol 4 months ago and my brother keeps trying to get me to drink with him justifying it with the "a glass of wine per night is good for you" research. Do you have a credible article or something that I can show to my family members so they can stop riding me all day?

Hey Tony, I have over 400 credible articles on this website talking about nutrition and fitness. Teambeachbody has TONS of resources on health, exercise, and fitness. There are articles and resources everywhere about the epidemic of obesity and disease sweeping our country. Feel free to share them with your family. And read my articles "negative people" and "changes". That might help you get a perspective. The problem isn't you. It's them. But it's the same thing every single one of us goes through as we make changes in our own lives. People resist the change. I dealt with it. So has everyone else who decides to get fit.

I've tried isolating every piece of food of eaten in an attempt to end my breakouts. I even kept all the same diet and added some extra rice into the fat shredder diet, when I add the rice, my acne clears up so the only conclusion I have come up with is I need a decent amount of carbs or I will breakout. I also have another problem that's been ongoing with my friends and family. They criticize me everyday when they see me measuring my food and exercising. All I do is the regular P90X2 with 1 hour a day. My parents are both overweight and taking medications for high blood pressure, yet they highly criticize me for following the p90x2 program. They are worried I will have a heart attack because I push myself too hard. It's been such a problem that they're trying to get me to see a psychiatrist. I ate something bad last night and had major stomach aches this morning and went to the doctor. The doctor said I was slightly dehydrated and my mom went ballistic, yelling at me for hours telling me how my excessive exercise caused this. I am actually on the 4th day of recovery week so I've just been doing yoga and stretching for the past 3 days. But anyways, how do I ease my families worries about me being psychotic and killing myself by doing P90X? My entire family is against it and are trying to convince me that this program is hazardous to my health.

Tony, are you serious? Your parents are both on blood pressure meds, obese, and lazy, and yet they are worried about YOU because you exercise???? Have them look at the research -- it's everywhere. The key to being healthy is eating right and exercise. They are the proof of what happens when you don't -- you kill yourself slowly. Give me a break! (of course, you tell them this in a much more loving way, but good grief this bugs me!!) Read my articles on "negative people" because this happens all the time. The problem isn't you. It's them.

Awesome job Mims! You got great results!

I am a little confused. I have been doing insanity and it suggested that I be eating 2300-2600 calories...but I am reading you guys say 1900? I am 5'9 172 lbs. Which would work best and would I not be hungry?

Hey Terrell, if your goal is to drop body fat and get max results, go with our advice! Read the "nutrition tips" tab for all the reasons why. And will you be hungry? You might be hungry or you might be full. I've seen both (which is why I've written about both in the nutrition tips tab).

See, you don't need technology to show the "goods". Way to go bro. Keep bringing it! Awesome job sir, I salute you.

Wow, amazing job, Mims! Definitely HoF material! Incredible...way to bring it

Wow those are some amazing results. I was on fat shredder at 1800 calories for a good 6 months and got down to 8% bf and looking sexy good, but holy hell did that diet kill my face, I had uncontrollable painful acne. I couldn't pinpoint the reason, first I thought it was the protein powder, so I switched to eating egg whites, still there was no improvement to my acne. Then when I finally hit my goal of 8% I bumped my calories up to 2400 and did the energy booster 40c/40p/20f and magically my acne dramatically disappeared within 2 weeks! Unfortunately, I think 2400 calories may have been too much for me even though every calculator I've used says otherwise. I gained 8lbs (went from 152 to 160) in about 4 months and went from 8% bf to 15% while still doing P90x religiously everyday. So anyway, I started P90X2 about 3 weeks ago and wanted to try a modified version of the fat shredder diet with less protein and tons more fat 30c/30p/40f 1800 calories. Unfortunately 2 weeks in, my acne is starting to flare up again. I did manage to knock off a good 1 inch in my waist and 2% bf in a short 2 weeks, but I don't want to go on ruining my face. So I switched back to 40/40/20 a week ago and my acne has improved yet again. I guess my body just can't handle low carb, that diet made me cranky and irritable all the time anyways. So anyway I just wanted to tell someone about my troubles. I'm eating 1800 calories now and hoping to get back down to 8% bf. But it just sounds weird, every calculator out there is telling me I should be eating anywhere from 2400 calories up to 2900 calories, but it just can't be true because I got fat as hell eating 2400.

Hey Tony. You'll have to keep experimenting because I don't think the acne has so much to do with the calorie total or the % as it does with certain foods that your body may not agree with.

Well if a bodybuilding program like that with no cardio and mega muscle gain doesn't affect athleticism, then I don't know what doEs?

But then again Brian, you quit P90X2 after a couple weeks cuz you thought it wasn't going to work. My results from that go live today. So haven't you learned yet that your assumptions about what a program may or may not do for you should be reserved until AFTER you've done it?

Mims, Thanks for the response. How did you get like that on a 1900 calorie diet plan? Those were excellent results by the way. I went through p90x2 and dropped down from 164 to 151(started 185 on p90x) yet my muscle mass has went down and now struggle putting on any weight even eating 30003000 Cal's. I only spent 30days on the shredder plan because being 6a foot tall I was afraid of droping any lower. Once again Awsome results.

hey coach.. don't you think that by doing body beast, all of your amazing gains in flexibility, balance, strength, coordination, speed, and agility from P90x2 will be greatly affected?

Hey coach wayne, i just finished insanity the asylum and i was wondering if i should just jump into P90X2 the next day or should i take a recovery week in between?

Congrats Nathan. You can definitely go right into the next round if you are feeling good and don't feel the need to take time off. I never take time off between rounds.

Wow, outstanding results! :-)

I dont know how you guys get 50% Protein ratios, Im taking 3x75g protein shakes a day along with chicken/tuna and I still clock in around 45% MAX (on a good day). Awesome results Mims!

Just keep planning your day in advance and you'll get it Danny. The key is to plan it ahead of time.

Great results man. What were ur stats before and after?

Awesome job Mims. Looks like you killed it. These are infomercial results!

Mike, I am assuming that your question was directed to Coach Wayne, and I am sure he will respond. But in my case, in particular, I followed Coach Wayne's 1900 Calorie diet to the "T". I tracked nutrition everyday with 50% of cals coming from protein, 30% of cals coming from Carbs, and 20% of cals coming from healthy fats. I cannot overstate the importance of nutrition. My advice to you would be educate yourself as much as possible regarding nutrion. I used reputable online sources and just read as much as I good. Coach Wayne's site is invaluable as well. Mims

excellent results mims, job well done!!

Wow looks like a totally diffrent person! Great job, Can you post their diets with the story's?

top of the line results man!

Awesome job Mims, very encouraging results bro!!

Hey Nathan, you can't go back in time so there is nothing you can do about the day 1's you took, but from now on its a wise idea to take all the pics, just like your guidebook descibes (it explains the poses you should do). Be sure you check it out!!

hey coach wayne, I'm taking my day 30 pics for Insanity: The Asylum and i didn't flex in my day 1 photos so i was wondering if i should not flex, flex or both for my day 30 pics. Thank you.

those are great results!!!!! GREAT GREAT JOB!!!!!!
