NORMAL ISN’T WORKING!! That sums it up!  Normal isn’t working with health in this country.  Normal isn’t working with finances in this country.  Normal isn’t working with faith in this country.  Normal isn’t working with parenting in this country.  If you are doing what “normal” people do (with food, fitness, finances, relationships, raising your kids, etc.) then you should expect “normal” results.

And what is “normal” when it comes to these things?  Fat, unhealthy, lazy, low self-esteem, broke, divorced, strained relationships, unfulfilled, no joy, no purpose, selfish unmotivated kids, etc.  If that’s “normal”, I don’t want to be normal!  And if I don’t want to be normal, I better not be acting “normal”.  I better be WEiRD!!

One of my favorite things to do on the way to work is listen to podcasts in my car.  It helps me keep my mind right and focused on what matters in this world to me.  And one of my favorites that I subscribe to is the Lifechurch.tv podcasts by Pastor Craig Groeschel.  In his current series “WEiRD” (which he just released a book by the same title), Craig talks about what “normal” looks like today, and how so many of us want to go with the flow, acting like everyone else around us, and yet we expect to have results that are better than normal.  The spiritual truths of this statement are obvious, but as I often find when studying the Word of God, there is a VERY PRACTICAL application of those same spiritual truths to our everyday lives.

The only way to have what few have is to do the things few do.  If you want to get ripped with 6% body fat, you better be WEiRD!  Normal people aren’t ripped with 6% body fat!  If your normal buddies are telling you to go out and eat/party with them and skip your workout, then you can go with the flow and be “normal”, or you can say, “No thanks!  Normal isn’t working!  I’m tired of being unhealthy and out of shape.  I’m choosing to be WEiRD!”  Trust me, all of us who made the lifestyle change to get in shape have been called weird by others who are in the “normal” mindset.  But I guarantee you I don’t want to go back to normal (aka Day 1 pics!) now that I’ve experienced WEiRD (aka Day 365 pics)!

Part of making a commitment like the one all of us make to P90X, Insanity, P90, Turbo Fire, Chalean Extreme, etc. is that we are stepping out of the “normal” and going into the realm of the “weird”.  We get labeled as fitness fanatics, obsessed, no fun, extreme, etc.  And if normal people are saying that about us, consider it a good thing!  That means we aren’t going to end up like normal people, on blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds, with obesity related disease and unable to enjoy our lives!  I’ll gladly be that weird guy who can still keep up with his grandkids and great grandkids some day, who has more energy than people half his age!  I want that!  That’s not normal.  That’s weird!

Like Pastor Craig says in his message, don’t worry if people call you weird.  Worry if they don’t!!!!

Have the courage to be WEiRD!  You won’t regret the rewards of a WEiRD life!
