Hey teamRIPPED!
Let me start off by expressing my appreciation to my buddy David Jeffries for the in-depth look at Crossfit that he’s given us over the last month. I have enjoyed learning from his experiences and breaking down some of the animosity that seems to exist between CrossFit and other workout styles. I think David’s insights were unbiased, fair, and looked for the common ground between the workout programs. So THANK YOU man, from me and all of the teamRIPPED nation. I think that was a very valuable journey.
On a side note, while CrossFit isn’t my cup of tea, and I much prefer working out at home, I must say that I LOVE watching the CrossFit games on ESPN. I have the DVR set to record it, as episodes are airing now. Granted, the people we see aren’t typical guys who workout 1 hour a day like you and I — these people train full time for hours per day to get in the athletic condition they are in. None the less, it’s extremely impressive to me to see what these athletes are capable of and how the CrossFit games test strength, endurance, speed, coordination, and mental toughness. I never get tired of watching people test their limits. American Ninja Warrior is another of my favorites. That stuff looks crazy hard yet crazy fun!
Another week of Fall is zipping by. My kids are on “Fall Break” this week (we never had Fall Break when I was a kid ….). Anyways, we are using the time off school to go visit my grandmother (their only living great grandparent) in Virginia. She’s never met our newest addition, Xander the “X-Man”, who we adopted last summer. We are excited for that.
Speaking of Xander, he’s doing amazing. For those of you who never heard the whole story, he is 6 years old and has cerebral palsy. He can’t walk or talk. He’s from an orphanage in Ukraine. It’s utterly amazing what a year in a loving home with a bunch of brothers and sisters, and a year of physical therapy can do. Just last week he took about 6 steps unassisted. He will be walking before long, praise the Lord. His progress is awe-inspiring. He is also learning to communicate with some words and sign language, so he can let us know what he wants and needs. He understands everything we say …. but like any 6 year old he may or may not WANT to do what we say LOL.
His favorite place in the world is the garage where I workout. I have some rings hanging from the ceiling, a punching bag, jumpropes, and an adjustable weight bench — the X man finds that stuff irresistible. He can play out there for hours.
He’s such an awesome kid and my other kids love him to death.
So how are YOU doing this fall? Are you holding yourself accountable? Do you feel your momentum ramping up or falling off? Are you committed to staying the course through the fall, or do you fear that the holidays will be your undoing?
If you need the accountability and support (which we ALL do in my opinion), come join our teamR1PP3D ’13 Challenge group. We have over 1,700 of the teamRIPPED nation in this group, Bringing It every single day!! In case you missed it, just this week, another winner of the Beachbody Challenge came from this group, Jonathan C. Big shout out to you bro. Congrats!
