Hey teamRIPPED!
First of all, thanks to everyone who took a minute out of their day over the past 2 weeks to vote for our own Shawn Swisher in the Beachbody Ultimate Transformation contest. Now our fingers are crossed that he wins the $25,000 grand prize!
This past weekend was a blast. It was the Memorial Day holiday, and I got together with a couple buddies to do some early morning workouts. I am so used to working out alone, and I really like working out alone because it’s on MY time, at MY pace, with no distractions and no one to impress but myself. However, I’ve got to say that hitting the weights with a couple friends was also a total blast. We did 2 hard core Body Beast workouts – Build Chest and Tris, and Build Back and Bi’s. I definitely felt myself pushing a little harder with my buddies there.
What about you? Do you like the benefits of working out solo or do you prefer working out with others?
I have some news that will affect the coming week in teamRIPPED nation. Every year our family takes a week to unplug from the “daily grind”. It’s one of the best weeks of the whole year. We totally disengage from the “usual routine” and spend a week without distractions, without TV, without work, and with only the things that are most important to us — each other. We go to Family Camp! It’s run by Kanakuk camps in Branson, Missouri. I always come back from Family Camp closer to God, closer to my wife, closer to my kids, and more in touch with my purpose.
We are leaving for Family Camp tomorrow, June 1st, and won’t be back until June 8th. Fear not! The website will still function as usual. I already have the blogs scheduled to post for the whole week, and you’ll want to be sure you check in and read them for tips and advice on your fitness journey.
There IS internet service at the Family Camp, and I WILL take my laptop with me to check in, but I will only be checking the site and emails once or twice per day. Rest assured that you can still post questions / comments, and you can still email me at coachwayne@teamripped.com, but I may not respond in the lightning fashion you are used to :-) But I WILL get back to you!
And in case you are wondering what I plan to do for my health and fitness while at family camp … I will still eat clean and do my workouts while gone so that I can set a good example for y’all! :-). I have planned ahead on my workout schedule so that the week we are gone will be my recovery week, and I’m taking my laptop and DVD’s with me — the perfect way to get my recovery week workouts in with limited equipment. There is a small gym on site with some equipment, so it will suffice just fine for recovery week.
The food at Family Camp is cafeteria style, so I will make wise choices as often as possible, and when it’s not possible, I’ll simply nibble a bit during the meal and then hit my secret stash in my room to fuel up — Shakeology, whey protein, jerky, almonds, fruit and veggies, protein bars, canned tuna, and oatmeal. The stockpile of rations in my room will keep me from feeling like I have no choice but to eat chicken fried steak or whatever it is LOL!
