Hey teamRIPPED! Do any of you feel like quitting? Are you running out of steam? Has the “inspiration” you felt on Day 1 vanished? Well, take heart! It could be worse! You could be THIS GUY:
I get a lot of interesting comments on my YouTube videos, but a recent one takes the cake! Let me quote:
“By watching yur videos yesterday i was so pumped up and ready to start.. I got all my weights and equipment and once I started the chest and back I only did like 15 min and I quit because I said I didn’t feel like it .. Any help man?
Are you kidding me?? He was “inspired”. He got everything ready to begin his transformation. And then he quit 15 minutes into the first workout!! Am I the only one laughing out loud at this point??!!
How do you respond to this guy? My first reaction, right or wrong, was, “Are you serious? Suck it up man! You were so inspired that you lasted a whole 15 minutes, then quit!!?? And now you are looking to me for help??”
This is how I responded to him: “You got all pumped up and inspired and then quit after 15 minutes? It’s not an emotion. It’s a commitment! You have to want to change your life and your body. The emotion wears off fast. If you quit everytime you feel like quitting, 15 minutes is all you’ll last!! Letting myself quit isn’t an option for me.”
That may be harsh, but that was what I told him. Then, as I thought more about it, I realized that there is a little bit of THIS GUY in all of us. The person who gets inspired, gives it a shot, realizes it’s hard, and then wants to quit. What makes us different than THIS GUY who quit after 15 minutes? Is it just that we can last longer before quitting? 15 days? 45 days? Or do we have the mindset that quitting isn’t an option?
Commitment to fitness isn’t an emotion. If it is, we’ll quit as soon as it gets hard. It’s a decision we make and commit to for the long haul.
So laugh at THIS GUY all you want. It’s funny! Sad, but funny! Just be sure you don’t turn into THIS GUY! He’s never going to succeed at anything in his life with that attitude!
