Power Source

I get asked all the time about how to stay motivated.

Starting P90X / Insanity / Power 90 / etc. is not hard!

Staying with it is what’s hard!

So many people start strong but fade fast.  Either they cave in to the diet and don’t see results, or they get tired and start to skip workouts, or they let distractions interfere with their workouts and end up falling behind.  Then they turn to me for help and ask how I manage to stick with it so consistently when it’s so “hard” for them to do it.

My answer to them is always the same.  It’s hard for me too!  Sure I’d like to sleep in, hit the pizza buffet at lunch, munch on junkfood all afternoon, and go out for mexican food for dinner.  But I won’t do it!  Why?  Because I have a group of people that I’m accountable to.  And honestly, those temptations that used to seem so overwhelming aren’t even on my radar most of the time anymore because I’m plugged into a power source that keeps me charged up and ready to conquer my fitness goals.

When I am tempted, the first line of defense is my own willpower.  That works most of the time.  But when I want to cave in and skip a workout or have a cheat meal, I think about the band of brothers and sisters I have right here at teamRIPPED, and I know that I CAN’T let them down.  I WON’T let them down!  And of course I think back to my “Why” (the reason I started all of this in the first place) — which was to take care of the life and the body that God has given me and to set the right example for my kids.

Just look at the people on the teamRIPPED challenge.  They would probably be the first to say how much harder they push themselves because they have a bond with the other people on here and they have real accountability.  I’ve even had the opportunity to see a few of you fade out for a month or two, then come back and re-commit by truly plugging into the community here.  Now I see those same people fired up and making huge progress!  That’s what I’m talking about!

The support we have here at teamRIPPED, on the challenge, and in the forum, is a POWER SOURCE!  If you are running low, PLUG IN!!  Get recharged!  I can almost guarantee you that the people who lose motivation and fade out are NOT on the teamRIPPED challenge, and they are NOT on “The Forum”.  They slowly fade out because they are disconnected from the team!

You don’t have to look for motivation.  It’s right here! Look at the transformations we are having.  Watch the Hall of Fame videos.  Look at the commitment of our teamRIPPED members.  How can that NOT keep you motivated?

And think about your “Why” — why did you want to do this in the first place.  Has that changed?  Probably not!  So Bring it!!!

Coach. Such a timely post. I was going through a big lull myself. Knocking out the last week of the hybrid now and wondering how to keep pushing…the challenge seems like it might be the solution. How are you liking constant confusion? Would you rather have gone to that after the hybrid or still have done the perfect storm?

  2. So true. I love how Beach Body presents this: Decide. Commit. Succeed. A very important formula.
I think about my family, online fitness partners like TeamRIPPED and verses like Hebrews 11:11-12 (NIV):
“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.”
Also, results are reaffirming!!! Pushing harder is somehow easier and harder as time goes on.
Thanks for all the encouragement everyone!

    Hey Arin!
I’m liking it so far but it’s only day 3 so it’s a little early to compare with my other hybrids. Don’t worry, I will keep everyone posted on my progress!

    Coach Wayne,

Truely Inspirational! Today was the start of my 2nd Round and I am brining it harder than I did in round 1. I look at Round 1 as a warm up to what I am about to embark on. Figuring out the diet, which supplements to use and so on. Now that I have everything dialed in I will only have to make minor adjustments here and there.

You are 100% correct when you say the best way to stay motivated is to plug in. I have learned so much from your website and my research. All of my knowledge of P90X and other programs like it started with your website which then led me to researching deeper into your blog topics.

    Thank you Coach Wayne!

Something great about P90X or any workout routine is that you can find at least one area that you are weak in and focus in on that as a challenge to overcome. A few of mine are the Crane from Yoga X, One Legged Wall Squat from Legs & Back, Pull-ups/Chin-ups in general lol! As long as I have a legitimate challenge I will keep coming back… and if i don’t, well I guess it’s time to get some tougher dvds. :)

Absolutely! I think the real reason I am been able to stick with it is reading teamripped every day! About 7:30 each evening, I check the site and try to watch a video on youtube about someone else’s success – that gets me up the next morning to push play!!

It was amazing, 6-7 wks into P90x and I was able to do crane, it was around the same time, i was able to pull off one-hand push ups. Tony is right, Yoga is about strength, co-ordination and balance. I highly recommend Yoga, though its 1.5 hours long, it is worth it!!

Monday is an early day at work so I missed my morning workout. I had every intention of working out when I got home, but life got in the way. Thinking it was too late to get the workout in, I decided to check the TeamRipped site. After reading Coach Wayne’s post, I got off the couch and got to work. I decided it was only too late if I wanted it be.

    Thanks Coach and TeamRipped.

    Hey Coach Wayne,

I’m on round 2 using your Perfect Storm hybrid. I feel great. It has been a while since I have went this strong. I already see changes in my body and stayed consistent on my diet. Even through thanksgiving I was able to stay on track! Day 8 down, 82 to go.

    Thanks Coach

Well Thanks once again for the words of wisdom everyone, It’s day 19 for me and i am so happy that i was able to do the crane for all of 2 seconds which seemed an eternity, but i did. I still struggle with ab ripper x as my gut keeps getting in the way (for now). Leg climbs are brutal. and wallsquats another to i am still working on my balance. i’m getting deeper and stronger on my lunges and flexibility getting there. I have lost 10lbs to date. clothes are loser. And although i no longer am able to workout in the am i now do it right after work and my 10 and 8 yr old are joining in at certain parts of the workouts. P90X is become part of the family. they don’t make every workout but they are aware of what is going on and look forward to it, and they ask me “so Dad are you doing P90X today?” As if there was ever any question that i wasn’t. I need to get some heavier weights
but at present i am not able i just do more reps, till i can aford more. I did back/legs ab ripper x today and then took my family swimming for an hour, that felt great.
Well that’s it. once again thanks for all
the help. And let’s keep helping ourselves and others bring it.
    Craig

    Coach Wayne,

I love this post probably more than any other one on your site. For the simple fact that on the days when I think that it is going to be to hard to Bring It. IT reminds me to figure out why I started this in the first place. Which was to get control of my health and fitness and to my myself proud and my family proud. Thanks again Coach!!!
