Those of you who have been watching the 1-on-1:MC2 workouts have noticed that there is a lot of new equipment with these workouts that you don’t necessarily have from your P90X set – medicine balls, stability balls, etc.  Will extra equipment be needed with The Next P90X?  That’s a great question, and let me say first of all, until the final release I won’t know with certainty how Beachbody will address this.  But here’s what I can tell you now:

First, there will definitely be extra equipment used in the The Next P90X workouts.  Many of the workouts will use medicine balls.  Many workouts will use stability balls.  Bands will be used for all sorts of exercises (which you may already have from P90X, or you may not if you went with only free weights).  And there will even be plyometric boxes and foam rollers used.  So YES, there is an additional equipment burden to do the full range of exercises.

However, Beachbody knows that part of what made P90X such a hit is that it’s easy to use with very minimal equipment.  So they didn’t leave y’all hanging!  Even though the exercises use this new equipment, there are modified moves for each exercise that use the old standby equipment you’ll already have – a chair, the floor, a pullup bar, and some resistance bands.  But if you want to really take it to the next level, you have that option with medicine balls and such.

I really like this approach.  You can do The Next P90X with the bare bones minimal equipment like P90X, or you can ramp up the variety and intensity with all sorts of cutting edge moves just by adding some relatively inexpensive equipment.  And you can even use items from around the house (like basketballs) if you want to simulate the more advanced moves but don’t want to buy any equipment.

I already jumped the gun and bought some Medicine balls (got a set of 4 from Amazon for about $100).  I also got a stability ball ($15) and a foam roller ($10) from a local sporting goods store.  I will use a chair rather than a plyo box, and I already have bands from P90X.

So to have the full arsenal of The Next P90X equipment, I am out an additional $125 on top of what I already have from going through P90X.   But it’s well worth it, because the new moves and the new advancements these few pieces of equipment provide will help us become ELITE – not just fit, not just healthy – ELITE!  I wouldn’t doubt it a bit if we see most college and pro sports teams implementing this kind of training (if not this actual The Next P90X workout program) once it’s released.  It really is that good and that scientifically superior to anything else we’ve ever seen!
