I just have a feeling that we need this right now, there are people on teamRIPPED that need to hear this…
I got a great email a couple weeks ago from a teamRIPPEDer named Josh, asking me to blog about a certain situation that may happen to you. This was what I heard:
“I believe that there are many of us who put in hard work with the nutrition, workouts, getting the supplementation, Shakeology, and spending the next 90 days giving it everything we’ve got…and at the end may not necessarily get award winning results. Most likely of course, anyone who does put in that kind of effort and hard work will see change without a doubt. But is it motivating enough to do it again…and again?”
I know exactly what he is saying… and I agree. I am sure there are more than a few people on teamRIPPED that have experienced this. I would start with some questions of my own.
- What are your goals? Specific goals for: health, body composition, fitness, etc.
- What were your expectations?
- Does reaching your goals in 180 days make them any less of an accomplishment than in 90 days?
- How long did it take you to get out of shape?
The first 2 questions really get to the heart of what you are doing. What are your goals? Do you have a specific BF% or maybe pants size? Maybe you need to improve your blood work to a certain level. Maybe you want to be able to do a workout like Chest and Back from P90X with over 30 push ups for every set and over 15 pull ups for each set. Those are all GREAT goals.
Once you have those goals, think carefully about your expectations. Maybe you haven’t deliberately thought about this, but did you decide on some made up timeline? I know this is impacted by other people’s results and Beachbody’s programs themselves, but any real transformation is more than 90 days. If you are transformed, that is for life. You will continue to work and push to new goals. If 90 days come, and you aren’t exactly where you want to be or think you should be, THAT’S OK! Does reaching your goals in 180 days make them any less of an accomplishment than in 90 days? Not at all!!! As long as we are moving forward, we are making progress. One set back or one missed benchmark (especially the ones you make for yourself) is no reason to throw in the towel. Suck it up and let’s keep pushing! You should feel GREAT if you have given each day 100% of your effort. There is nothing more that you could do. You DID IT! Feel proud!!!So are you going to get down if you don’t get 6 pack abs in 90 days? You shouldn’t!!! How long did it take you to get out of shape? Only 90 days?…
Should you get down if you start feeling bad and skip workouts and cheat on your diet? You bet you should! You made a commitment. A commitment to yourself. Make decisions that honor that commitment each day. Push play and track your nutrition for your goals. Do it consistently and you can accomplish any goals! Maybe it will take you 90 days or maybe it will take you 365. Either way, you are moving forward towards your goal with each workout and each logged meal. You got this! BRING IT!!!
