It took me a little while, but I really wanted to give you a good picture of Insanity MAX 30! Man is this going to be a good one!
Coach Wayne’s Insanity Max: 30 Review
In the base package, you get 10 main workouts (plus a 10 minute AB Attack and 20 minute Pulse workout). 5 for Month 1 and 5 new workouts for month 2. Buying Max 30 through TBB gets you a cool bonus workout called “Sweat Fest” which is definitely a nice gift. You will also see the MAX OUT Guidebook, NUTRITION to the MAX nutrition plan, wall calender, and a little No Time to Cook Guide. The BASE kit does not come with the portion control containers, that is in the MAX 30 Deluxe Kit. Or if you have 21 Day Fix, you have all the containers. No bands, speed ropes, or agility ladders… that’s right! Cuz MAX 30 only needs you!The normal MAX 30 schedule is set up for 5 workouts a week and 2 rests days. You are given the option to do an extra workout on Saturday, but that would be your choice. For the AB MAXIMIZER schedule, you workout 6 days a week and rest 1. Both schedules for MAX 30 are 60 days long. On the calenders, each day has a place to record your MAX OUT time. Maxing out is really at the center of MAX 30. How hard can you go, and for how long, before your form breaks down or your have to stop? That is MAXing out!
Insanity Max 30: The Workouts
I have not made it through all the workouts at this point for a few reasons. First, I am just adding some of these workouts to my Beast workouts to help tighten up my nutrition and surplus. I had been doing the BULK workouts when I got MAX 30 and with those short workouts, I was noticing faster gains and more BF. So I have used a few MAX 30 workouts to just help keep that in check. Second, after my first workout I HAD to wait a while to try another! My calves were destroyed! I haven’t been doing too much cardio, but I went all out. Shaun T just has that effect on me! My legs and especially calves were pumped and ruined LOL I loved it! But I had to wait 4-5 days until I felt like I was ready again.
The workouts are all 30 minutes and breaks are few and short! There is a 100%, dedicated modifier in each workout. So no matter who you are, or what limitations you might have, you can do Insanity Max 30! What is REALLY cool is each workout has a Modifier Track. This is a separate option at the menu to play a track that has a split screen with the modifier shown for 100% of the time! You can see exactly what the modifier is doing for every second of the workout. So don’t be intimidated by MAX 30. You can do this if you modify and take it at your pace. The modifier became very tempting to me even when I wanted to go a little longer before MAXing out LOL The modifier really takes the pressure off your knees too and turns the moves into low impact/no impact moves.
I’ve been through basically all of the Month 1 workouts. One of my favorites that I have tried is Tabata Strength. Tabata workouts are based on 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest. Normally a Tabata workout is done for 8 rounds of that. MAX 30 uses that structure for the whole workout. The DVD does a great job of keeping you on track with a countdown beep and buzzer for each working set into the rest. I felt this workout flew by!
I can’t wait to try more workouts! I’m going to stay in Month 1 for a while and see if I can beat my MAX out times :-)
Insanity MAX 30: The Nutrition Plan
The nutrition plan for Max 30 is essentially the 21 Day Fix Plan. Shaun T and BB has based this on the container system. When you open up your guide, you really only get a choice between 2 options, a PLAN A and PLAN B. The deciding factor for those plans is whether your are over or under 150 lbs. You can already imagine that I have a little issue with this LOL This is a pure portion plan with specific containers for the various food groups (exactly like 21DF). So if you haven’t guessed it, my issue is… Should a guy who is 240 lbs really be on the same nutrition plan that a guy who is 165 lbs is on?No way! I know they are trying to keep it super simple, but I would have even been better with this plan if they had 3 plans. Say under 150#, then 151-200#, and over 200#. That would make more sense. So PLEASE email me if you are over 200 lbs. I have helped a lot of people adjust the 21 Day Fix plan for higher starting weights. I know when I was starting over 250 lbs, I wouldn’t have made it on PLAN B. So email me!
With each plan you get a daily food chart. This shows you how much of each food group (or container) you can eat. So for example, with PLAN B – you get 4 red containers of proteins. The Nutrition to the MAX plan then has a list of proteins that count as 1 RED container. You eat those 4 throughout the day and you are good to go. Very easy once you get used to it.What I really LIKE about the MAX 30 Nutrition Plan
So what is really good about this plan is that it keeps you focused on WHOLE FOODS. No matter your opinion on what food is best, is that or this food “bad”, etc No one can argue that these are good foods. You are sticking to really high quality proteins, veggies, fruits, and fats. That is a good thing for people trying to break some bad habits with very addicting junk foods.
I also don’t mind how simple the plan is, IF you are going to really stick to it. I saw this with the 21 Day Fix plan too. If you really commit to being honest with the container system, it’s a fine plan. No, it’s not as exact as tracking (which is my preference). BUT you will get results even with the little inconsistencies. And MAX 30 puts you at a great deficit and still keeps protein high. So I like that. As always, your consistency is what pays off. ]
What I’m not crazy about with the MAX 30 Nutrition Plan
As I said before, I don’t like that there are only 2 plan options. Again, I don’t think a guy weighing 250 lbs should be eating the same amount as someone who only ways 165. But we can adjust that. I also still prefer a more exact approach over a portion plan. In all my experiences, real nutrition tracking gives you the best results. All of teamRIPPED is a testament to that!
My Overall Opinion of Insanity MAX 30
All in all, I think Insanity Max 30 is going to be a great program. I love getting to push until I can’t push anymore. Shaun T gets you to push harder and further than you think you can. He’s a great motivator and instructor. I also love the dedicated modifier! This is exactly what people need. You don’t need to be scared to try a Beachbody program. Sure, some of them are very intense, and this one can be. But there are so many resources to help you exactly where you are. That’s really what my job is! To get you results, no matter where you are in your fitness journey.
Have a great Christmas week!
