This weekend I got the chance to use the new Pre-Workout product by Beachbody, called Energy & Endurance. It’s designed to be a great compliment to the Results & Recovery Formula, which is for using immediately after your workout.
I’ve used a lot of PWO’s during my time doing P90X and Insanity. I haven’t used any for several months though. So I was anxious to try a new one.
The E&E has a couple features that I was well aware of before trying it. Most notably, it does NOT contain creatine. Most of the more potent PWO’s contain creatine, which is great for making it “work” better, but also require the product to be cycled (which stinks when you are on a “off” cycle). There are only a couple PWO’s out there that don’t contain creatine, and they don’t do much for me.
The other thing I noted is that the ingredients in E&E are very “safe”. There aren’t any of the controversial ingredients like 1,3 Dimeth (which is in some PWO’s and can cause a person to test positive on drug tests).
So my biggest question was, will this do much for me? Is it too “safe” to be effective?
I tried it twice before writing this review for you =
The first time, I used just 1 scoop, before a lift workout (30-15 Upper Body Massacre). This would be the “mild” dose. I wanted to see if it would do anything for me with a low dose. I didn’t get a big kick from it. But I felt a little extra energy. And 30-15 is one of the longest, most challenging lift workouts I’ve done, and I finished it feeling like I still had some in the tank (I usually finish that workout in agony LOL). So I’d say it helped me some.
The second time I decided I would try a “Max dose” — I did 2 scoops, AND I added 3g of creatine monohydrate powder to it. I used it this way before an intense cardio workout (Insanity Max Interval Circuit). This time I felt the full effect that I really crave from a PWO. It could feel the heart rate start to rise and the energy rush that told me it was time to start working out. I felt lots of energy the whole way through, and even for an hour afterward could still feel a little shaky in the fingertips from the caffeine and beta alanine. So as PWO’s go, that’s what I want to feel. I want to know it’s doing it’s thing. And the E&E did it. So I was pleased.
Conclusions = for a guy my size, I’ll want to use the Max Dose (2 scoops) when I use it. It definitely gets the job done, and when I add some creatine mono to it, it gives me a boost just as good as Jack3d, 1MR, or NanoVapor. Plus the nice thing about this product is that during an “off” cycle, I don’t have to stop using it altogether. I can just stop adding the creatine to it and I’ll still get a good effect (much better than not being able to use anything).
My Plans = I will use the E&E for my difficult P90X2 workouts (4x per week — I won’t take it on the rest days or yoga day). This will be about 16 uses per month, and I will use the Max dose of 2 scoops (I always prefer the max dose on any PWO I’ve ever used). I will use it without any extra creatine during my foundation phase, and then during the final 2 phases I will add 3g of creatine to it as well.
I hope this review is helpful to you!
