Davene has an inspirational story that I think MANY of you can relate to. Her video is a little different than what you are used to seeing. It’s both her results, and her story, intertwined. Davene’s Story =
For as long as I can remember I’ve struggled with my weight and image which has caused me to battle intense self-esteem issues. I was never comfortable in my clothes and my weight fluctuated more than the temperature. The past several years have been a personal journey to accept who I am while trying to approach a healthier body and toned physique.
In high school I weighed over 200 pounds and fought with programs that have never worked for me. From starving myself with Slim Fast and diet pills to counting calories and wasting time and money with personal trainers, I have tried numerous programs all of which seem to explode in my face with little results. I’ve even gone as far as trying a “cleanse” where I dieted on only a cayenne pepper and lemon water concoction for 10 days straight!
The weight would immediately return, but I would never fully give up hope.
The beginning of 2011 was my lowest of low when I saw how much time had gone by which I would never be able to get back. I knew if I didn’t make a change with my health right then, then I would be hurting later in life.
In March of 2011 I started to teach myself how to truly eat. I was sick of eating prepared meals completely saturated with sodium and other unpronounceable ingredients that left me hungry and dissatisfied. An article my uncle sent me on the on healing the body with a plant based diet, helped spur this radical new lifestyle.
I had never really known how to truly take care of my body I started surrounding myself with books on the importance of using whole and organic foods to nourish the body .It took time for my mind and body to adjust to such a significant change, but within months I felt a difference and truly fell in love with my new lifestyle. I couldn’t get enough knowledge of using food as medicine. I found a passion that I never knew existed.
Come July, I felt that something was still missing. This is when I decided to take on P90X. I struggled through it and there were I wasn’t as dedicated as I should have been, but I pushed though. By the end of 90 days I was shocked how far I had come and truly was in the best shape of my life. From there I moved on to Insanity and instantly became addicted. It was hard and it pushed me harder than I had ever gone before, but after every workout I felt empowered which helped me to keep going. I have to say that I am truly blessed that I have found something that works. My life has truly been changed and some days I don’t even recognize myself. It’s crazy to look at old pictures and think of the person that once was. This journey has been so healing for me in many ways!
Josh, does your bag say New Superfood Formula? They have been modifying Shakeology to make it even healthier. See how you like it over time and if you still aren't satisfied, BB stands behind their products 100%, they will refund your bag.
Hey coach, I'm making my energy booster breakfast for phase 3 and i was wondering for my morning oatmeal (its called something else in the book but i forgot) it calls for an apple but can i substitute it for a cup of blueberries instead because i like them more.
Josh, plug in an apple and some blueberries into MFP and see what an equal amount is for calories and carbs. That would work fine then.
Wow Davene, Way to go! Love that you found food as your medicine. The vegan challenge facebook group has helped me there too. Great results! Keep it up, very inspirational message.
Hey coach, i'm on day 3 of my second recovery week and you know how your 3rd day in a week for X2 is usually a rest day. well i made my rest day on my most hectic day because i find i don't have as much time. My question is if you still take the third day off during your recovery week?
Josh, X2 recovery weeks are Yoga and Mobility/Recovery back to back to back to back.... no off days.
And also, did you notice anything weird about your shakeology lately, before i thought it tasted great but now i can barely get it down, just wondering if there is a way to switch to the old kind.
