Briton has overcome a lot of bad habits over the past few years.  He lost 80 lbs by exercising, riding his bike to work, and going to the gym every day.  But he still wasn’t “in shape” — he just wasn’t obese anymore.  He tried P90X numerous times but always gave up.  Finally, something clicked and he plugged in with the teamRIPPED nation and has stayed 100% committed and accountable ever since.  He just completed P90X with no cheating and no skipped workouts.  And he’s on fire to keep on going!  I’m proud to have you in our Hall of Fame man!  Way to go!

Briton’s Story=

One evening after eating a large pizza to myself, along with drinking numerous cans of Mountain Dew, I looked into the mirror disgusted with my unhealthy habits. I was twenty years old, weighed 240 lbs., and knew that I needed to make a change before I ballooned even further. Something had to be done, and that night, I resolved to begin on a path that has been bumpy ever since.

I had struggled with my weight since early adolescence, and had never really given exercise a chance. I remember meeting with a trainer once at the local gym, and not wanting to get out of bed the next day. I was in tears! I pushed myself so hard during that training session, and now my body was wracked with soreness. It plagued me for a few days, and I swore that I wouldn’t lift weights again. Thus, my first experience with weightlifting was negative.

As the years progressed, I found myself stuck in front of the television or computer playing videogames. My nutrition was abhorrent. Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and other fast food restaurants were my go-to diet. Its no wonder I found myself past the brink of obesity!

Fast-forward two years—I lost eighty pounds after moving to Maui, HI, where my daily commutes consisted of riding a bike. My gym was five miles away, and after biking there, exercising for an hour, then biking back, I felt very accomplished. The weight melted away after five to six months, and I was able to maintain the weight loss. However, I was “out-of-shape”—loose around the edges, so to speak. I had begun to eat healthier and exercise daily, but I was doing my own thing rather than looking to people who had gone before.

Fast-forward three more years (that’s a total of five years after losing the eighty pounds, for those mathematically challenged!)—I now had a wife and daughter. I tried attempting P90X somewhere in the realm of five to ten times (I lost count), and didn’t find the motivation until recently to complete the program. After finding Team Ripped, I came away from the website inspired by the results of others, and went to work on consistency and determination. I made sure that everything was in place—sound nutrition, the right equipment, the willpower to succeed, and my wife’s support. I was ready to stop asking “what if,” and start saying “why not!”

At first it was difficult. I began student teaching shortly after starting the program, and waking at six a.m. everyday was tiring. After a month or so, I developed the habit of waking up every morning and looking forward to the workouts. One day, out of coincidence, Coach Wayne had posted an article on skipping workouts, and that same day I had thought about skipping my workout the next day. After reading the article, I pressed forward and didn’t skip one workout the entire ninety days.

I plan to continue my journey through fitness and good nutrition for the rest of my life. It’s important that I set the tone for my family, and I love that I’m making progress in that arena daily. I am currently doing Body Beast now, but will eventually touch P90X2 and P90X3, respectively. Furthermore, Team Ripped will be there to influence my choices along the way!
