We are into the first couple weeks of 2016 and we have a lot of people starting or re-starting their fitness journey. It’s awesome! Y’all are fired up and so am I!
But what should you expect in this first month of working out with a Beachbody program? Maybe this is your first one. Maybe it’s your first time in a LONG time. Whatever the case, here are some expectations to have going in.
YOU WILL BE SORE
I posted about this yesterday, but you will be sore if this is your first time working out in a long time. Muscles will ache. Joints might get tight. You will wake up and think “Owwww, how can I do this again?!”
Suck it up and GO! Really, everyone gets sore. You are giving your body a totally new experience with all this exercise. So you need to call the shots, not your body. You control your mind, tell yourself to BRING IT!
Don’t discount sleep, water, and avoiding alcohol. First off, turn the electronics off and get 8 hours of sleep. You might have to go to bed at 9 if you are an early riser, but do it for your recovery. Then drink your water, get my recommendations here. Finally, you should be avoiding alcohol if you are cutting anyways, but really avoid it all out. Do the 90 days without it. You will recover so much better without it and it you happen to drink a fair amount, you will see your sleep improve a lot without the booze!
The soreness will get better if you keep working through it. Warm up longer, stretch at night, take an easy workout… just keep showing up!
YOU WILL GET DISCOURAGED
Not to be a Debbie-downer but it happens. Things will happen in your day to discourage you. It might be unsupportive family members talking down about your nutrition plan. It might be co-workers giving their always awesome opinions (that was typed with a lot of sarcasm). It could just be a tough workout where you don’t perform.
Shake it off and know this from Tony: YOU ARE IN THE ROOM! That is what matters. You are doing it!
YOU’LL BE TEMPTED TO SLIP UP (and might actually slip up)
Many of us are changing habits with food that we have had for years. So don’t be surprised once the buzz wears off if you are tempted. Start thinking about your goals and how important they are to you right now. Don’t start only when the temptation is happening. Your ULTIMATE goals must be bigger than your temporary cravings. This post on cravings will help!
If you do slip up, stop eating and don’t beat yourself up. The little you went over will do less to slow you down than if you throw in the towel and pig out. Don’t think you ruined the day and go crazy! That is stupid. Learn from it and move on.
If weekends are trouble, this post is for you!
YOUR BODY WILL CHANGE
30 days of sticking your nutrition plan, workouts, and new lifestyle will change you! 100% guaranteed. If you commit and bring it, with no cheating, you will see changes.
Don’t just focus on the numbers from the scale, but grab those progress pics and put them side by side. Look at your worksheets, you are stronger! Think about what you can do NOW as opposed to just 30 days ag0. That is progress and there is only more where that came from!
If at any time you need a kick in the pants, just get a hold of me. If not I’ll still help :-) … suck it up, track your nutrition, bring it in your workouts, and EXPECT CHANGE!
