Getting ripped is something we all like to think about. It’s an admittedly ego-centric goal, but one that does give us motivation to keep pushing play and staying committed to our diet.
However, there is a more important reason we are doing this. We want to end the trend of obesity that has swept our country. We want to live energetic, vital lives that impact people around us.
The story of John Frias is what it’s all about! I’m so excited to present to you the story of one of our own teamRIPPED members and the way he’s completely transformed his health and his life. He’s lost NEARLY 100 POUNDS in 9 months doing P90X! He’s taken his blood pressure from a life threatening 180/109 to an incredible 110/68. THAT’S WHY WE DO THIS! God bless you John!!
This is John in early 2011, before P90X, weighing 260 lbs =
John realized he was headed toward an early exit from life with the habits he had formed and the health problems he was developing. He made a total commitment to undo the damage and seize his life back. After a round of P90X he was looking like a new man! =
John was now healthy again. But he had learned what he was capable of, so why stop? He kept going, kept working, realizing this is a life-long commitment to healthy living. And he’s continued to see results! This is John recently (December 2011), and he’s still going strong! =
Check out those abs!!! I bet on those before pics you’d never imagine those abs would ever been seen! I’ve got no words to express how happy I am for you John, and for what an inspiration you are.
John is entering the story of his journey into the Beachbody Challenge, and I want to share it with you guys and gals =
Before P90X I was miserable and tired all the time. Because of my size I never got a good nights sleep, my asthma was out of control and I had to eat Tums like they were candy due to my severe acid reflux. I had zero self esteem or self worth. I started becoming embarrassed to go out with my family because I was ashamed of what I had become. That shame caused me to sit on the couch watch TV and eat. I was becoming more and more depressed and hopeless.
Christmas 2010 after lunch my brothers and I went out side to throw the baseball, it got me out of breath and I got so sick that it caused me to vomit. I sat down on the porch with my 2 year old daughter too tired and sick to play with her and thinking enough is enough. I don’t want my children to be ashamed of their father. I want them to think their father is a super hero. So I decided that I would start January 1 just like everyone else does. Well I didn’t do it. Two months went by with no change in my life and then in March I started getting severe pains in one spot on the top of my head so with my wife’s prodding I went to the Doctor. I was scared to go because I knew my health was horrible. I had Occipital Neuralgia which is not very serious but I also found out my blood pressure was ridiculous and all my other blood work came back horrible. I was terrified and extremely motivated. I had also found out we were expecting our 2nd child I couldn’t let my family down any longer.
Initially I tried one of those quick fix weight loss programs. I did lose some weight in the beginning. But it only worked for weight loss I still looked and felt horrible. Still out of shape and now even more tired than I was before. If I wanted to be that super hero this just wasn’t going to cut it. I needed to be fit and healthy not just a lighter version of the old me. I started with a combination of P90 and one of those video fitness games to prepare for P90X. Finally on July 16, 2011 I was ready to begin P90X. I didn’t know it yet but my life was about to radically change. The first month was horrible, I lost very little weight and felt very little improvement. So I had a hard time sticking with the program and staying motivated but kept waking up in the morning and making myself do it. Then I found Coach Wayne and with his help I learned I wasn’t pushing hard enough or providing my body with the proper fuel. Then things really started to happen.
Words can not express how shocked and amazed I am at how this program has worked for me. I love this program because it gives you the ability to adapt with the videos. You can modify or push as hard as you want with no judgment or peering eyes. I also love how I didn’t have to think about what I was going to do or come up with a program to do. I had a team of professionals in my living room every morning directing my every move. For some reason we get it in our heads that we have to go to a gym to work out and get in shape. Even though that never worked for me in the past I still had a difficult time letting that mind set go. Tony teaches you that you don’t need a gym and in fact using his program got me in better shape than I would have ever thought possible. With utmost sincerity I thank Tony and Beachbody for this program because I am becoming my daughters (yes our 2nd is here) super hero.
Initially nutrition was the hardest. My wife was pregnant and eating everything under the sun (she is going to kill me for saying that) so the temptations were great but I stayed true and pushed on. But with the help of my Beachbody coach I was able to really dial in what I ate. Now it is just a part of life. I don’t even think about it any more. I found that my mind set changed from eating for pleasure to eating for fuel. I had heard this before but didn’t really believe it. I have however cheated once in the last six months and it was Christmas day lunch. I did enjoy the food but much to my surprise I enjoy eating clean more and I definitely do not miss that sick full sluggish feeling we all get from absolute gluttony. I may have cheated but I have also learned how to not be a glutton. Every step has been a challenge but one thing this program has taught me is that the harder and more difficult the challenge the greater the reward and pride of accomplishment.
Wow there are so many. The physical goes with out saying. I can sleep now, I can play with my kids, I can tie my shoes without coming up for air, and my life long asthma is completely under control. But most importantly I have an absolute new lease on life. It has changed every aspect of my personal life. My marriage is better, not that it was bad before but now it is even better, I am a better father, I work harder in my professional life, and my self esteem has been restored. I am amazed that this journey has taught me that taking care of your physical body will cause your mind and spirit to follow. I am now not only in the best physical shape of my life but I am also a better happier person over all. Initially I started this journey thinking it was all about changing my physique but now I am realizing that a good physique is just the icing on the cake but by truly taking care of our body’s we also take care of the most important parts of our lives. BRING IT !!!!!!!!
