Tyler’s Story in his own words:
I am a 28 year old husband, father, and resident physician. I was always active in high school and college because I played baseball and stayed in pretty good shape. Once baseball was over I gained weight in college and med school like crazy. I was so disappointed at how obese I became at such an early age. I knew I needed to do something but I was never someone who liked working out and I love to eat. I hit my breaking point in the fall of 2009 while looking at a photo of me and my son on an amusement park ride. I was huge! I decided that it was time to get in shape and never look back.
I tried the original Power 90 videos by Tony Horton while I was in college. I really thought he was a good motivator and the workout was intense. I heard about P90X and knew it would be a great and comprehensive workout regimen that would get me in the best shape of my life. I knew I was way too out of shape to handle it so I started watching my nutrition and did the Tony Horton 10 minute trainer videos to “baby step” my way into P90X. I lost about 35 lbs in 2.5 months. I was excited. I was then ready to start P90X.
I did round one of P90X and really enjoyed it. I got stronger but I only lost 9.5 lbs over the entire 90 days. I got a little bummed out because I was expecting to be ripped in 90 days and I followed the nutrition plan and thought it maybe wasn’t the best option for me to get my results. Over the next 6 months I tried different training programs, running, strange diets and even a personal trainer at the gym. Still no significant change. I was getting so frustrated and thinking there was no hope for me.
I then got to thinking, what did I do over the past year that really made me feel stronger and more fit? The answer was P90X. I then decided to start P90X again and maybe come up with a new nutrition strategy. I then stumbled upon the Teamripped site. I seen that Coach Wayne modified his diet during the fat burning phase of the program such as watching your breads, brown rice, sugary recovery drinks, etc. I had always been under the impression this is what you need to succeed in the program. However, these can actually significantly hinder your fat loss. I started implementing his diet while doing P90X and could tell such a big difference in just a few weeks. Fat was dropping of me and my muscles were finally becoming more defined. This was the answer. This motivated even more to push hard every day. I also noticed that I had so much more energy following his nutrition strategies than ever before. I actually get up before work and workout now which I could never do before and actually get a quality workout.
I kept pushing myself, eating clean, and showing up everyday to get the best out of my workouts and it has finally paid off. I am so happy. I feel better than I ever have. I’m glad I’m setting a good example for my family now as well. My son knows I exercise everyday to stay healthy and hopefully that will stick with him as he grows up. Its really satisfying that you can get in the best shape of your life right in your living room. I really want to thank Coach Wayne and the rest of Teamripped for everything and hope the team just keeps getting bigger and better.
I am only through phase 1 of this round of P90X. I still have 8 weeks to go during my first TeamRipped round. I am expecting awesome results.
