Shiloh Tells His Story

First I would like to say it’s inspiring to be a part of this group. There are a lot of great coaches in Team Ripped, and there is never a shortness of motivational posts in the team ripped group. Staying plugged in helps a lot.

I have been over weight since I was a teenager, and at some point reached a whopping 340 pounds. I lost 140 pounds to join the navy on a liquid diet that was “supervised” by a medical professional, and got very skinny but was in terrible shape. I thought that joining the military meant that I would automatically be fit for the rest of my life. I had this image of waking up early and going for a run at 5 every morning as a group, and shortly after going to my first command I realized I couldn’t be more wrong. I started shift work and didn’t work out unless it was unit pt a couple times a month. I share this part of my past because it has everything to do with why I finally decided to change my life in February of 2013.

Throughout my six years in the navy I had put on fifty pounds and stayed around 250 without much effort and convinced myself I was okay with that until I broke my leg in 2012. I couldn’t run or walk without crutches for six months. I came out of the cast just in time for deployment and left at around 265 lbs. I left for this deployment when my mom had liver cancer and my son was only six months old. I had a tougher time dealing with that than I thought I would, and when I came home I weighed over 300 pounds. I failed a fitness test, which was my second failure in four years (first was in 2009), and if I failed one more I would have gotten separated from the Navy. At the exact same time I got approved to switch jobs, and I had been waiting a long time to make this change for the better.

While I was on deployment I found Coach Wayne’s youtube channel and started watching the videos multiple times every chance I got. Everyone sees the infomercials, transformation videos and pictures, but something about Coach Wayne stood out. I requested to have him as my coach and started Insanity Feb 2013. At the end of last year I weighed 235 pounds. Since I started I have done Insanity, t25, the 21day fix, and p90x3 for three rounds (I love p90x3), and currently weigh 218.8 pounds. I am also going to school for my new job in the Navy and no longer in danger of ever being forced to get out as long as I keep going down this path. I still have many personal goals to meet, but I appreciate how far I have come.
