Marc has been working out in our teamR1PP3D ’13 Challenge group this year, and he just compiled an awesome video highlighting his progress. He worked out before, but in the ’13 Challenge group he decided to take his game up and go FULL THROTTLE! His focused on the workouts, nutrition, supplements, and accountability has enabled him to bust through the plateaus and really see the results he was after.
Way to go Marc! You are what the teamR1PP3D ’13 Challenge is all about. You are making this YOUR YEAR!
Marc’s Story =
My name is Marc Duckworth. Currently I stand at 6’ and weigh 151lbs. That was not always the case though. Up through my early twenties I was skinny as a rail. I remember working at Dairy Queen and throwing down two chicken strip baskets a day without the scale even budging. I ate whatever I wanted and always heard that it will change when you get older. I never believed them. Man, was I wrong.
At 24 my wife and I had our first child. What a blessing! During the pregnancy however I learned what sympathy weight was. It was nothing for us to be eating out at a pizza buffet twice a week and going to other fast food restaurants as well.
I started to take notice that I became skinny fat. I wanted to make a change so I started buying fitness magazines and joined a gym. For about two years I hit the gym hard. I was spending an hour and a half a day busting my butt. I was also throwing money everywhere on supplements hoping that they were the key to change me. Nothing changed. I look back now and see how much time that I lost in that gym. I worked hard, but the harder I pushed myself, the more I passed out on the gym floor. It was getting to be a joke to some people. I had enough and wanted to do something different.
One day I decided to order P90X. I thought I could get the results that other people got. I worked hard and ate horrible. Again, nothing changed and after about 2 weeks I stopped. I was getting so frustrated with myself and hit some very depressing times. I felt like I had no control over my life. At my physical for my job, the doctor said that I would be on blood pressure medicine in the next year or two. It was genetics; I couldn’t do anything about it. The final blow came to me when I had my picture taken in Mexico on a mission trip. When it was shown to me my jaw dropped in disbelief. I was caught not sucking in my gut and immediately went to a scale. I weighed myself and asked a friend to convert the weight to pounds for me. 202 pounds! I tried and tried to do better and I did. I’d lose some and gain it back. This cycle began for me for a little while.
On all the days where I said it was enough was January 1st. I started looking at the Team Ripped website a couple of weeks before, but today I was looking for encouragement. This year was going to be different. I noticed a challenge group starting for this year and I thought it was perfect timing. I told myself to eat right and give it everything I had for the year. If I didn’t see good results then it would be over. I stayed in the challenge group for inspiration and also met some great people so far for accountability. Now I was actually seeing results! I stayed on track and lost 51 pounds.
Not even half the year is gone and I have destroyed all of my previous results. The year is not even over yet as well. I can’t wait and see what will happen next as I started coaching for BeachBody and continue to be the best I can be. I have an amazing wife who has supported me through this and two little girls that have kept me accountable as well. I am so blessed by God in all He has put in front of me this year.
