Lou was rocking along until he had a major setback — an injury that could have made him throw in the towel on his 90 days.  But he didn’t get down, rested while he healed, kept eating clean, and rocked the rest of his 90 days as soon as his broken collar bone was healed.  That’s the kind of positive attitude that leads to awesome results.  And Lou definitely got awesome results!  Congrats man!

Lou’s Story in his own words:

My name is Luis Garcia and I am a registered nurse. I am also married to a beautiful and supporting wife and have two awesome little girls. With one full time position at a trauma center and a part time position at a smaller facility, my work shifts are long and can get hectic at times, so I always used “not enough time” and “no energy” as excuses to not exercise.  Due to my excuses, I was completely out of shape, tired, and unmotivated to do anything about it.  In summary, I was not providing a healthy example for my family or the patients I interacted with.

In the summer of 2010, I saw an infomercial for 10 minute trainer by Beachbody and went ahead and purchased the program.  I figured, “I have 10 minutes a day!” “I will try this!”. I did well for the first 30 days, lost some weight and saw a difference in my energy level.  However, I quickly reverted to my unhealthy eating habits and gained my weight back.  For the next year, I did not exercise. I tried to be careful with what I ate, but we all know how that goes.  To make up for the “big meals” I would skip a meal here and there, thinking that would make up for it LOL.

The moment my life changed was in the summer of 2011. My family and I were at the beach, and noticed that I was spending most of my time watching my wife and girls run around the shoreline and enjoying their time together, while I was too tired to join them.  For a brief moment, I felt alone.  It was a sad moment, but an eye opening experience.  What have I become?  I am only 37 years young!  I NEED to do something now.

I knew of P90X, and felt like that was what I needed to do.  Before I purchased the program however, I went online and watched transformation videos on others who have gone through the program.  That is how I met my coach….what a trans

formation!  I went onto his team’s website and knew right away I made the right decision to join his team.  My coach was serious and demonstrated the commitment to the program.  I needed to be held accountable and receive continuing support in the areas of nutrition, supplements, and workout advice. Not just by the coach but the other team members as well.

I was challenged and motivated to bring it! I DECIDED to pull the trigger and buy the P90X program.  I could not wait to open it.  I went through the nutrition book and mapped out my diet plan and discovered various ways to keep track of my nutrition to be sure I would stay on track.

During my 12 week journey I was so excited to see the results I was getting when comparing the pictures of my progress as I went along. At the end of week ten, I had a mountain biking accident, which fractured my right clavicle, fractured ribs 2 through 5, and a right lung contusion.

I was more disappointed at the fact that I was so close to the end of my 12 week journey and was not able to finish on time, than the injuries I sustained.  However, even though I was bummed out, I was not discouraged!  I stayed on track with my nutrition and continued to track everything I ate. My accident was onOctober 15, 2011 and by November 5, 2011 I felt like I was back in the game. I was not able to do pull ups, push ups, and weight lifting yet, but I was able to do plyometrics.

When I got clearance from my orthopedic on December 1, 2011 to use my arm for weight bearing exercises (with weight restrictions as not to re-injure), I picked up where I left off, the beginning of week 11.  With the injury I sustained and the time off, I could feel the difference in the amount of weight I was able to lift and the reps of pull ups and push ups I was able to do, but I did my best and that is all that matters!  I finished my last 2 weeks of round 1 and I got awesome results!

I had COMMITTED to waking up everyday 1 hour before my usual time and pushing play. It became part of my everyday normal routine. Starting the day off with an energetic workout and rewarding myself with a tall glass of SHAKEOLOGY to fuel my body was only the beginning. My transformation journey was an awesome experience which tested my true strength of my mind and body.  I was not derailed by the obstacles, which were placed, in my path.

I’ve decided to start my own coaching site, teamXtremeShred in order to help others achieve their goals, answer questions, get motivated, and provide a site where we all can feed off each other’s encouragement.  “Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up” ( Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, NKJV).
