Kevin B is a healthcare provider, but he wasn’t doing a good job of living a life that he wanted his patients to have!
It was Beachbody and P90X that made the change for him. I am so glad you are on teamRIPPED Kevin! Your transformation is amazing! Now everyone knows you not only talk the talk, but you walk the walk. Congrats man!
Kevin B’s Story
As a healthcare provider, I cannot educate patients and advise them to lose weight or exercise if I am overweight and/or intolerant to exercise. My weight loss journey began in the summer of 2008; I had peaked at 276 pounds. I was just about to start my senior year in college, so I needed something practical to follow. It initially started with portion control, starting to make better nutrition choices, working out consistently 4-5 days a week. During the course of that summer, I lost my first set of 30 pounds. I still haven’t even discovered Beachbody yet.
It was not until after graduation in the summer of 2009 when I moved to northern Kentucky and discovered P90X. At this this time, my weight was approximately between 230-235 pounds with a body fat percentage of 27.5%. I followed the program, but to the extent I should have. However, I did end losing another 35-40 pounds. Fast forward some – got married, built a house, applied to grad school. I had completed everything I wanted, so I had no more excuses until kids were involved. That’s where P90X2 came in.
It was the start of 2012, my pre-P90X2 weight was 207 with a body fat percentage of 21%. I followed the program verbatim. Through each phase of the program, my weight just started to shed off. My long-term goal was 190, and in the middle of the program I far exceeded that goal. Because I still had half of the program left, I set a new goal of 175. When I finished the program, I was just shy short of reaching that goal. I enjoyed the program so much, and because I was so close to my goal, that I decided to do another round of P90X2. At the start of the second round, I weighed in at 177. It didn’t take long at the start of the program for me to reach my goal of 175. When I reached that, I set another goal for 165, and it wasn’t long when I even accomplished that.
The summer of 2012, four years into the process, I had finally reached my goal weight, losing a total of 121 pounds and decreasing my body fat from 30+% to 8.5%. In the time since, I’ve adjusted my nutrition habits to reflect a maintenance plan instead of a weight-loss. While weight-loss is no longer my priority, maintaining leanness and gaining lean body mass is. Currently, my weight has gone up to 170 while further decreasing my body fat to 7-8%.
None of this could have been possible if it were not for Beachbody. It has transformed my life with their products and support from coaches. In fact, I was chosen as Beachbody’s Monthly Challenge winner in February for my transformation.
Now that I’ve finished my school, healthy lifestyles are a must in healthcare, not only for myself, but also for my patients. As I’ve gone through my journey, I’ve come to appreciate the work it takes to lose, maintain, and gain weight; therefore, I see a lot of value in me providing personal coaching due to my medical background and personal perspective. This is why I have chosen to specialize in health coaching and nutrition consulting as a nurse practitioner. I encourage any of you who are going through or have gone through a similar process to support one another and ask questions. Empower your health, be willing to learn, and experiment. Learn from failure and experience, and always continue to go outside of your comfort zone.
