Keith was over 300 lbs and quite disgusted with himself. He vowed to make a change, knowing it wouldn’t be easy and that it would take a lot of hard work for a long time to undo what he had done to himself. He tried a couple “gimmick” things, but found that it didn’t give him lasting results. He plugged in with teamRIPPED, P90X, and the fat shredder diet …. and it all started to fall into place for him. He’s now 125 lbs lighter, just finished a round of Body Beast, and is an entirely different person.
What an inspiration! Read Keith’s story after you watch this video. It’s amazing!
Keith’s Story =
I was always overweight. I was the chubby kid who wore “husky” size pants, I was one of the two or three heaviest football players, despite only being a Sophomore, and by my 20th birthday… I was always the most overweight person in the room.
My bad eating habits started early on. I remember when I would drink a full two-liter bottle of Coca Cola soda, with a king size snickers bar, every day without fail. I grew up in a house, where there was always home-made cake, muffins or brownies lying around.
And if my food choices weren’t already bad enough, throw in the fact that I had ZERO control over the amount that I would eat… and the picture paints itself.
My weight grew to 322lbs in college, and I was ready to make a change. I came across a book by Dr. Atkins, and I immediately started the “low carb” diet. I lost 90lbs in nine months just before my 21st birthday. Even though I had tasted quick success, I didn’t realize at the time, that I had set myself up for future failure.
If anyone has tried cutting carbs to the extreme, then they know… if you fall off the wagon (which seems inevitable with time), then you put the weight back on three times faster than the rate at which you lost it!
I never fixed my problem of over-eating, I just substituted fatty meats and cheese for fries & cake.
In addition, although I was proud of my professional career… spending roughly seven of the eight scheduled hours a day in a chair, really fueled the overall problem.
My 20’s consisted of “Yo-Yo” dieting, with one extreme to the other… It was either countless carbs in a day, or I would stick to less than 25 carbs a day. I didn’t believe anything else could work for me, but then again… I knew I couldn’t stick with this in the long run either.
By my 30th birthday, this behavior resulted in me weighing 327lbs… I really questioned… whether I could ever be a “normal” guy. Just reflecting back on this, makes the tears fall from my face.
Although I was miserable, it wasn’t until I reached my breaking point… that my life really changed.
That moment came when I was vacationing in Disney World with friends & family. It was a scorching day at Universal Studios, and I waited in line for over 90 minutes to get on the “HULK” roller coaster. But when it was my turn to strap in, I was too obese to fit. Workers quickly came over to help, but it was obvious… I wasn’t going to experience the ride because of my weight. Instead, I had to get up, and walk back down the line, with hundreds of people watching me. During that walk away from the ride, I told myself… NEVER AGAIN!
I would say, that this was the most humiliating moment of my life, but even then… the words don’t really do the feeling justice. The rest of my vacation, the plane ride home, the moment I carried my bags thru my front door… all I could think about, was change.
I had the determination, but I really didn’t have a plan… I started a diet of my own, where I would restrict carbs, but not to the same extreme. And I would make healthier choices overall with more veggies & fruit. Lean meats instead of red meat, mustard instead of mayo… combining this diet with a makeshift at home workout, I lost 40lbs and got down to 287lbs on my own. But, despite the progress, I felt like something was missing from my approach.
Then, late one night, I came across an infomercial… and everything changed! P90X… I was immediately excited, but also intimidated. I watched that infomercial several times over. Tony’s line “just do your best, and forget the rest!” resonated.
I couldn’t sleep that night, and I went into work the next day talking about it… and thankfully a co-worker said, “Yeah, P90X is the real deal” and he offered to let me borrow his DVD’s.
Despite the P90X nutrition plan being similar, I did not follow it because it was suggesting more calories than I was already taking in… and I had a lot of weight still to lose.
I knew going in, that I was going to struggle with the workouts, but I was going to give it everything I had. The entire first round, I only did “granny” push-ups from the knees, but I kept saying… whatever it takes!
Round 1, I finished at 266lbs… Round 2, I finished at 234lbs. I didn’t pay any more attention to my diet, until I realized mid way thru my 3rd round of P90X, that the scale had stopped moving.
I started to get down about the process. Even with encouragement from friends & family about my weight loss, I wasn’t satisfied… I wanted more!
I turned to research… health articles, Youtube transformation stories… and that’s, how I came across Wayne Wyatt’s transformation. I was blown away!
I quickly reached out to Coach Wayne and joined TeamRIPPED this past January. The 2013 Challenge Group had just started, and I wanted in!
Coach challenged me to be precise, and to pick up a food scale. I realized that I had been giving it about 90% effort, and it was time to dig down and go that extra 10%!
Once I had “fat shredder” dialed in at 1900 calories, the weight once again began to fall. I finished my 3rd round of P90X at 218lbs.
As important as the workouts and the nutrition, my daily “plug in” to the Challenge Group was equally as valuable too my transformation.
Questions, recipes, progress reports… I became consumed by the “positive” nature of our group, and honestly… it didn’t take long before I was more excited to check in with the group, than my own friends & family on FB!
I knew during the last few weeks of P90X, that I wanted to give Body Beast a shot. After all, I had also seen a lot of interest in posts generated by Beast. I still had more body fat to lose, and coach believed Beast combined with “fat shredder” would allow me to continue losing, and that is exactly what I did.
I finished Body Beast weighing in at 200lbs, having lost 18lbs during the round. Even more surprising, was that I had upped my calories from 1900 to 2200 just two weeks into the program.
Sitting here now, having lost 127lbs… I feel a lot of different emotions. This past year of my life, has been without question the hardest I’ve endured for personal reasons… and I’m proud to say, that I never gave up… and I never stopped working.
Yeah, I’ve lost a lot of weight, but the truth is… during this process, I’ve gained so much more as a person… And that, is not something that can be measured!
Thank you for everything Coach Wayne! And to my TeamRIPPED nation, let’s finish 2013 STRONG!
As for this guy, I still have BIG goals… so it’s about time to put on my bracelet, and BEAST UP!
