Chris M. (aka Gov) has been a mainstay on the forum and message boards for a while. He’s gone through a round of P90X, a round of P90X Plus, a round of Insanity, and the “Constant Confusion” hybrid. So he’s been bringing it for a while now! And as he gets set for the Asylum Challenge, he FINALLY got around to putting a video together for me! LOL! Nice work man! I can’t wait for your next video after Asylum (you can’t just leave us hanging now!). Check out Chris’s “pump you up” video and read his story below!
Gov’s story in his own words:
I started out my journey Being discourage of who I had become. I was the guy who would rather sit on the coach than go outside a play with my kids. I was still smoking after 15 years and it was starting to show. I drank more than ever, I was able to drink a case of beer with a buddy! him having his own. What had I become? I started to gain more and more weight over the past 5 years with no stop in site. I would think about dieting and that would consist of eating less ( starving myself) and soon would eat more to make up for it. I started to work out with a buddy and like usual things happen, can’t do it today! and that fell apart. Back in the same rut thinking I could possibly have a heart attack if I started to workout. My body is making excuses to why I shouldn’t workout. My ankle I broke 7 years ago and there is a chip in there that moves into a unpleasant spots once in a while so running would be out. My router cuffs hurt from years of racing dirt bikes out of shape, so pushups hurt there out. Excuse after excuses would come out of me until I would just say the hell with it and go order a pizza.
My wife and I had made a pack to start going to church every week after both her grandparents had passed over the last couple of years. Since then I have felt that my life was starting to get back on track. I was able to get a job at home and stop traveling all over the country. Due to the economy that job had slowed down to the point where I was home more than gone so change was needed there. After searching for some time I found a job within 22 miles from our home, 3rd shift but at least I am home right. As soon as I started they were having some sort of weight loss program within the co. to promote good health. I thought to myself since I knew where I was going to be everyday it was about time I started to work on getting back into shape, Quit smoking and clean up! So my first goal was to get rid of the cigarettes which is not easy at all, But slowing to 4 cigarettes a day for a couple months helps more than you know. Next was to figure out what gym I wanted to join. I was not really looking forward to joining a gym in my condition. That night I went home and saw the P90X infomercial for the 100th time saying to myself man that would be great if I could get my life back in just 90 days. So I started to Look on the internet for anything bad about P90X. This is what I found 0ut.
After watching 100’s of videos of people Get’n it done I decided, I could do this! I could get it done, failure was not a option. I was pumped from watching all those videos I did not care if I had a heart attack, I was not going down without a fight. So the next morning I told my wife that I was going to start this program and she laughed at meL I said I don’t care what you think, I am going to focus on this and I will succeed. She said that’s great getting in shape and quitting smoking is a great idea. She really is supportive but thought I was just buying into some stupid infomercial scam again. After convincing her it was no scam and I was dedicated I started to look for everything I needed for this program. The program, a mat, dumbbells, pull up bar, and some bands. Alright I got my list now it is time to do some shopping. J I went right on Beachbody and found the program for like 3 payments of 39.00 or something that was cool so I could buy the other stuff with keeping my initial bill pretty low. So I went to Wal-Mart to see what they had for supplies, Perfect they had a mat, and a pull up bar. I remember having some dumbbells in the garage so that was my next mission. Yup I had 2 sets of octagon dumbbells 25’s and 35’s perfect. J I knew now I would have to look for some bands for all the stuff I was unable to do, so that was my next mission. After Looking on eBay I found a co. right here in new England that sold them for like 20 bucks awesome. Now I had to wait for everything to get in.
It was going to take 3 days for p90x to arrive so I had to find a way to stay motivated. I surfed the net gathering information on eating plans and watching videos of people working out to stay motivated. I came across a video of Coach Wayne and his first transformation video In which lead me to his website TeamRIPPED.com. I thought this guys transformation was unbelievable and he is somebody I need in my corner to keep me accountable, So I sent him a email asking him if I could join his team. Coach immediately responded excited to get me going on the right track. Now I had already signed up for Beachbody so they had assigned me a coach already. Coach Wayne helped me do a easy Coach switch in about 5 minutes and I was all set. So now I had everything I needed to get started on the right track.
Ok so I have a start date Monday August 31, 2010. I got everything in and it was time to take the fit test oh boy! Well that went pretty bad, I couldn’t do anything! I got 1 pull up, 5 push-ups, was barely able to hold myself up on that wall squat hold. No way I could touch my feet, all signs were telling me this program was too hard. The book even said to do power 90 first, I thought what did I get myself intoL. That night I went back on the internet and started to watch some more videos and started to find ways to complete each exercise so I could do it. After hours of watching video’s my motivation returned and I was going to get this done no matter what. The first day I think was chest and back, I grabbed a chair for the pull ups and just did the push-ups on my knees. I pushed as hard as I could trying to keep up with the guys on the program knowing I was cheating and should be able to keep up. Man!! By the time it was over I lost my lunch and felt like I was going to pass out! Man was it tough! I remember shaking in the shower saying to myself how could I have let myself go this far. After about a hr I started to feel really good and the pump was unbelievable, what a great feeling. The first couple of weeks were pretty much the same as the first but every day I was feeling better and better that feeling of getting sick or black spots was getting further and further into the programs, So I knew it was working. I just kept telling myself “All I have to do is push play and change is inevitable”. After completing the first 30 days with a weight loss of about 15 lbs I knew I was doing the right thing and I could get it done. My body had shrunk significantly in just 30 days it was amazing. I had sent my pictures to coach Wayne showing him my results and he was just so impressed with all my hard work. He was proud of me and that gave me motivation to keep going, This is where the accountability kicked in.
Next Coach sent me a email stating that he had setup a forum and I needed to plug in to stay motivated, So I did just that. Every day I posted what I had done in How did you bring it, This was great because accountability was being kept track of here. Next I posted some fat pics so people knew who I was and what I look like when I started. Now I would be accountable to update every month and knowing that people are going to look to see if I am still doing it!
Next was like many of you over the next few months Bonking, getting sick, learning about supplement, starting shakeology, pulling muscles, and learning how to eat right takes forever but worth it.
Finishing up P90X was a great feat for me because it felt like the hardest thing I had ever done, And that alone was a greatest feeling of accomplishment. Since then I have completed 30 days of a p90x plus hybrid, Insanity 60 days challenge, and 30 days of Coach Wayne’s hybrid “Constant Confusion” . I have lost a total of 57 lbs in just 210 days “ that is just 7 months” , and 11 inches off my waist, 11 inches off my chest, and now fit in to size 33/30 Levi’s jeans. Oh and after smoking for over 15 years I am able to go road running like a animal never getting tired or losing my breath!! Does these programs work? You tell me!
