We ALL know Gerry!  He’s been here, plugged into teamRIPPED from the beginning.  He’s been a source of motivation, encouragement, and advice all along.  I’m proud to have Gerry as part of our loyal team.  And I’m very excited to feature his video (about time man!! LOL).  He’s worked very hard to overcome a weight problem that had him peaking at 315 lbs!  He’s now over 100 lbs less, thanks to proper nutrition, supplements, and of course P90X and Insanity!  Way to go Gerry!  You are in this for life, so this is only the beginning.

Gerry’s Story in his own words:

It has been almost 2 years since I started my weight loss journey. I weighed over 310 pounds. At 22 years old, I felt like I had the body of a 70 year old man not to mention my endurance and athletic abilities had almost disappeared. Everyone has their story of where they have been, why they let themselves go and mine was a combination of fairly heavy drinking, heavy drug use and undiagnosed depression. For 3 or 4 years, my existence was terrible and I knew that I could not keep my lifestyle up for much longer. I always knew that I needed to lose weight and it took me 2 and a half years of being clean and sober to finally commit to getting healthy. My journey started with healthy eating and exercising regularly but then I found a site called sparkpeople.com. I was not convinced tracking food and joining a community such as this one and sparkpeople.com would have an effect on my life. I can’t tell you how wrong I was. I lost about 60 pounds in 6 months ending in December of 2009 at which point I went on vacation and put on 10 pounds of bacon and booze.

From December 2009 until April 2010, my weight went on a small roller coaster but now I am slowly losing the last few pounds on my journey to being fit and healthy.  As of April 2011, 23 months after the start of my journey, I have lost 102 pounds total and I am loving life. I finished my first triathlon in Peterborough, ON on July 4th and finishing inspired me to train even harder and be more diligent with my diet in order to complete another triathlon which I complete on August 22nd of 2010.  I decided to start Coach Wayne’s crazy hybrid workout program involving Insanity, P90X, P90X Plus and One On One with Tony Horton. I saw Coach’s results video on the facebook P90X page and he obviouisly got incredible results from making up this program and I was very intrigued.

Round 1 I did Coach’s round 2 hybrid.  Round 2 I did what Coach Wayne calls the perfect storm.  I did not miss a single day for 180 days; period.  Even when I was refereeing ice hockey for 3-5 hours in a day, in addition to working full time, I still found an hour to press play.  First 5 months rounds, I had shakeology daily, it really helped control my snacking (well at 3,400 calories by the end of round 2, how much snacking could I even do I feel like I am constantly eating but still) and made me feel great.

My new round three is a new hybrid involving triathlon training.  I swim and bike Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I run and do a P90X lift video Tuesdays and Thursdays, I do ab ripper x Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.  Sunday is also a long run.  My priority race is August 7, 2011 and it will be 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run (twice the distance of my previous triathlons)…I will probably do a few shorter triathlons earlier on in the summer for practice as well.

P90X has taught me so much and really has expanded my confidence and self-esteem.  The determination and diligence required to complete P90X, Insanity or any combination of the two is nothing to sneeze at.  I now know that there is nothing I can’t handle.  It is no longer a matter of if if can be done.  It is a matter of when it will be done.

For most of round 1, my nutrition was in the fat shredder however I was around 3,200 calories for the majority of it.  I currently eat around 3,500 clean calories every day, I allow myself to have some of the things I enjoy on occasion but my diet is very clean.  Currently my diet is around 50-55% carbs, 20-25% fat, 20-25% protein depending on the day.  As for my current stats: 6″4, 213 pounds, 10.0% BF, Resting Heart Rate of 48!! (it is probably lower but I have yet to measure it right when I wake up)

I am forever grateful to Coach Wayne and teamripped for really getting my fitness to where I always new it could be.  If any of you follow international triathlons, keep an eye out for me in a couple years in Kona, Hawaii attempting to take on the Hawaii Ironman.

BRING IT!
