I mentioned Eric last week in my check in article, since Beachbody selected him as the monthly winner in his age category for his transformation. He finished up his results video, and I am so proud to share that with all of you. We are blessed to have so many awesome people like Eric representing our team in the Beachbody community. Way to go hard man. Way to push to the limit. Way to inspire!
Eric’s Story =
I had always been a pretty active adult. Then, my wife had our first baby, and our second about 2 ½ years later.
After our kids were born, I did not do any exercise or pay any attention to my nutrition. During this time I gained about 40 pounds! I had never weighed so much. I think the low point was looking at pictures of myself on the beach after a family vacation. I could not believe how bad I looked.
I decided I needed to do something to get back into shape. I started running again and even got my wife to join me. Over the next year or so we started running 5Ks and worked our way up to half marathons. My big goal, however, was to run the Goofy Challenge (a half marathon one day and a full marathon the next) and in January of 2011 my wife and I did it. I was definitely in the best shape of my life and feeling good. I wasn’t ripped or anything, but I thought I looked okay for someone in their 40s that still didn’t pay attention to their nutrition.
In early 2011 I had a skiing accident which resulted in a sports hernia and a fractured leg, although the leg would not be diagnosed until November. Between the time it took to have surgery on the hernia, recover, finally figure out what was wrong with my leg and recover from that, I was off my feet for almost a year. In that time, I gained back most of the weight I had lost running and I looked and felt terrible.
Although I was a runner before the accident, I realized during my physical therapy that I needed to do a fitness program that worked my entire body, not just the areas that pertained to running. I was tired of being injured and I felt that if I developed better overall fitness and flexibility, I could stay active and still minimize my chances for future injury.
I had never heard of P90X. One day I was reading a magazine article about a group of U.S. Congressmen that did something called “P90X” together. The article briefly described the program, talked about how popular and effective it was and I was intrigued. After being laid up for a year gaining weight and getting out of shape, I felt I needed something extreme and challenging to kick start my transformation to a healthier life. I found the Beachbody site on the Internet and ordered P90X.
I think I got amazing results. I am 43 years old and I never thought I would ever see my abs. In fact, I had never seen them before now. I didn’t really have any goal other than to get my body fat below 10%. I more than achieved that goal and after the 90 day round, I went from 16.5% body fat to 6%. That is really the achievement I am most proud of. I’m also proud of the fact that I followed the fitness and nutrition plan to the letter for the entire 90 days. I dialed in my nutrition requirements, including Shakeology every day, and never cheated on any of my meals, ever. I also never missed a workout, including X Stretch every Sunday. I figured that I was going to give P90x 100% to see if it was really as great as everyone said. I have to say it was even better than I expected and a lot more fun. I really looked forward to getting up every day and “Pushing Play.”
