Doug’s Story in his own words:
I was 40 years old and my body was slowly deteriorating. I played every sport available through high school and went on to play football in college. After college, I just stopped working out. I enjoyed going out to eat and having a few beers with my dinner. Pizza and beer was a staple. Slowly, my weight was creeping upwards.
When I turned 40 my weight was hovering around 250 lbs. I knew I was heading down the path of no return. I decided I needed to do something about it. My six knee surgeries on my left knee throughout the years had left my knee arthritic to the point my leg is crooked. It bows outwards and I walk with a limp. It actually hurt to walk. I didn’t think there was too much I could do.
I decided to start riding a bike. Then I started racing my bike. I started losing weight! I lost 20 lbs pretty quick. During racing season I would get my weight down to around 220. In the off season, it would jump up to 230 and I had not really changed my eating habits. I thought this was the answer.
When I turned 45, I started to notice a change with my body. I was tired all day long but couldn’t sleep at night. My back was so stiff in the mornings I had to put my pants on while sitting down! Even though my weight was down in the 225ish range, I was still fat. I was soft. No muscle tone. I wanted to change this but had no idea what I could do. My body just hurt too much to do anything but ride my bike.
During one of my sleepless nights, I watched the P90X infomercial. I watched it the next night too. I probably watched it a dozen times. Every time “wishing” I was 10 years younger and “wishing” I didn’t have my knee problem and a stiff back so I could start a program like that.
One day for some unknown reason, I pulled the trigger. I bought P90X. I really didn’t have any intention on doing the program but for some reason I bought it. I found TeamRIPPED and Coach Wayne. I started getting motivated. Then I started my “journey.”
I pushed play everyday. I ate clean everyday. I was going to put everything I had into sticking with the program.
After 90 days, my strength, flexibility, balance and cardio have all improved significantly. I have lost over 30 lbs of FAT. I have lost nearly 7 inches off my waist. I cut my body fat in half. And here is the crazy thing. I am full of energy during the day but I sleep like a baby at night. My back problem is gone. My knee actually feels better (still crooked though!!!).
I have made this “journey” a lifetime commitment. I don’t want to go back to what I was because I feel so much better the way I am. I want to help others to change their lives the way Coach Wayne has helped me change mine.
