Douglas is a great teamRIPPED member. He’s been with us since 2013. He tried a lot to get going, but it was consistency and T25 that really made the difference! His results from 2014 were ones I needed to share again!

My Transformation Story!!!

See that guy on the left? In the burgundy shorts? That photo is what prompted me to start this journey. That was just over two years ago. I had always been a “hard gainer”. Very skinny, lean, the type of guy that could put down an entire medium pizza, a few beers, and follow it with a nice ice cream sundae, and never think twice about how that might effect my health or my waistline! Well apparently something changed, I think they call it “getting older”, but I never noticed….Until I saw that picture! Man, what a wake up call!!! In that picture I was about 180 pounds. Not “heavy” in the grand scheme of things, but for someone who had been 135-140 since high school, that was a pretty big shock. And man was it a soft, flabby, sloppy 180 pounds!! I bought P90X probably 2-3 years before this picture, had tried it many times, and pretty much never made it past the first week. It was time to dust off those DVD’s!

July 2011, the beginning of the first leg of my journey! I started, and finished, my first round of P90X! I went from 179 pounds to 160 pounds in 90 days! I was pretty darn happy with my body for the first time in a while. Now, this first round, I tended to skip the cardio days (esp. Plyometrics) and even when I did it I would stop half way through. I definitely skipped YogaX, well, pretty much every week, and during the recovery week, well I interpreted that as a “rest” week and pretty much did nothing. Oh, and I skipped Ab ripper X a lot! My diet…..well I changed my diet, but I didn’t change it enough to really get the most out of the program. In short, I admittedly didn’t give it my all, and I STILL saw some pretty good results!

Fast forward almost 2 years to June 2013. I had been trying various workouts (300 Spartan workout, jogging, German Volume Training), throwing in some P90X every now and then, but I really wasn’t seeing any changes. Slowly, the motivation to workout diminished and I was starting to see myself trending in the wrong direction. Then, I heard about a new program coming out soon from ShaunT and Beachbody called Focus: T25. It was basically a really intense, no break or rest workout, for a full 25 minutes. Now I hated cardio. Yes hated it!! I had tried Insanity in the past and I just couldn’t stick with it, but 25 minutes? That might be doable! I talked to my wife and she agreed to do the program with me. Long story short…..I pre-ordered the program and we started in on July 1, 2013. The second guy from the left on the top of this page is my photo from that day. I joined a Challenge group, ordered my Shakeology, and made meaningful adjustments to my diet. I used MyFitnessPal to track my calories and I pressed play EVERYDAY (I did miss two workouts), 6 times a week for 10 weeks! The results…That’s the third guy from the left! I went from 164.5 to 146.5 pounds. I lost 5 inches from my waist and my body fat went from 20.2% to 10.2%! In ten weeks I had transformed the way that I looked and the way that I felt! I was, at 40 years old, in the best shape of my life! But I wasn’t done there! After T25 I completed a P90X/T25 Hybrid with the goal of adding a little muscle to my frame. Mission accomplished! Then it was on to the, brand new at the time, P90X-3! Again, Brandi and I worked out together for 90 days. My goal with X3 was to increase my ab definition. I didn’t get all the way there (my fault, not the programs), but I definitely improved them! Finally, we completed a full round of Asylum and that’s where this transformation ends for now! 

As of August of 2014 and I was just over 1 year into my true transformation journey. I just finished 10 weeks of Body Beast and I am planning on starting X2 on September 1, and then I will be doing Asylum 2 to finish of 2014 strong! I’ve been with TeamRipped since July of 2013 and I could not have done even a tenth of what I have done without the support and accountability of Coach Wayne and the rest of the TeamRipped Nation. I am indebted to Coach Wayne and I can only dream of inspiring and leading as many people as he has. Peace.
