Hey Coach,

Can you help me with this situation?... I am currently doing a p90x/insanity hybrid... Today I am incorporating insanities upperbody weight training in the rotation, kinda of like what you did with your hybrid...

My question is regarding R&R.... The longest you want to go is about an hour after a workout to take R&R.. However on one day I was going to do Insanities upperbody weights then right after go straight to P90X legs(skipping the back portion) then go straight into ab ripper x... Thats about a 1 1/2 -1;45 total workout time.....

Since I am doing them back to back and my heart rate is staying up the whole time (going down during ab ripper x), and not resting, do you think R&R is not going to be useful ?? or would it be ok since my rate is still high ??

Thank you very much

Richard, I would take it after that marathon session. It will still replenish glycogen stores and be very beneficial for recovery. That's a tough workout!

 CoachWayne

Thank you very much for the reply.... Another question regarding this. Since Insanities upperbody is being done in the beginning will taking the R&R not going to be as beneficial to the upperbody muscle groups because by the time I finish ab ripper X, an hour might have passed by??

Thank you very much again.

Richard, It will still benefit you. You will still need to replace your glycogen stores.

Just ordered R&R today and will provide feedback after I've used it for a while.  Tomorrow is day 1 of P90X round 1 so due to shipping time I will have the first week to do P90X without the R&R and should see a difference once I include it into my meal plan post workout.

hi coach. Ive never had R&R and i would like to taste it before spending my $$.  Is there anyway/where to sample it? i plan on using it after my fat shredder phase

thank you, Jake C.

CoachWayne 142 pts moderator

JakeC No samples on R&R. All of BB products have a 30 day guarantee though! It is great. I really can't think of anyone who doesn't like it.

Hey coach, over the summer I am planning on doing two forms of cardio the first being Insanity asylum, and the next will be 5k training, about 5 times a week. I was considering using optimum nutritions Serious Mass to try and maintain (not lose) the muscle i have gained from p90x. Would you recommend this?

CoachWayne 142 pts moderator

Reggie K Serious Mass could help as a tool, but overall calories will determine if you maintain. You need to watch it carefully and add calories if you notice you are losing.

Do you recommend the RR after Kenpo X? Particularly during the fat shredder phase?

Dave, if you really brought it in Kenpo, R&R is fine. Just make sure you earn it.

Coach, did you use the R/R on your fat shredder round?

Leo, yes I used R&R in my first round. I didn't record it in my tracking, as I was already at a big deficit. I only used it if I felt like I earned it though (not after yoga for example).

hi coach wanyne i live outside usa iam from lebanon beirut in lebanon there is no p90x recovery formula drink and i cant buy this supplement are there any alternative supplement like p90x from GNC products or creating a mix to be same p90x by protein carb and fats thanks

Hani, from GNC you may be able to find Endurox R4. That would be a very good recovery drink.

hey coach, quick question but how do you feel about the new and improved formula for the recovery drink. I've had the old formula and loved it but am a little on edge of trying the new one. Does it really taste as bad as people say it does

Justin, no it's not bad. I can't tell the difference anymore. The removal of fructose and addition of dextrose is a clear win from a recovery stand point. All BB products carry the 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Will the r & r help lower high blood pressure, will the creatine in it cause me to retain water. Thanks

Derek, I am not sure if the R&R will directly impact BP. Losing weight will! The creatine will cause you to retain water. That's its job, to draw water to your muscles. It's a good thing.

Hi Coach! Since I workout late (8-9pm) isn't this a lot of carbs (39c 2 scoops) to consume this late when I'm trying to cut body fat % on the fat shredder plan? Thanks!

Dan, taken right after you workout, R&R will still be ok.

1-I noticed that the R&R has 5 grams of creatine. I weigh 220lbs, should I add an extra 5 gram scoop to the R&R for post workout drink? 2-Do I need to cycle off the R&R every 2-3 months since it has creatine? 3-Can I add an extra scoop of whey protein to the R&R drink Post workout since it only has 10 grams of protein? thanks

Hey Michael, R&R has 500mg or .5g of creatine, you definitely need to supplement with more creatine. With low creatine, you don't have to cycle R&R. Directly post workout, you don't need more protein. The next meal should have more protein after your R&R.

My Recovery Formula expired 04/10. Is it still safe to drink? Ive been looking forums and most say yes, other say no. trying to save $.

Ed, if it has been kept air tight, I would still use it.

Hey Coach, I just got my first tub of Results and Recovery formula and had a question for you...I see that each serving contains 5g of creatine and was wondering if I could add 5g of creatine monohydrate to the recovery drink during an "on" cycle? I'm 5'9" and 170 lbs, so I didn't know if that would be too much creatine for someone my size, in which case I would just leave out the added creatine. Thanks!

Nick there is 500 mg of creatine or .5g. So adding creatine on top of that is needed.

Coach Wayne, I know you've answered my question already, but many have said that having a carb post workout isn't the right thing to do for the reason that the afterburn of fat will not take place since glycogen will be replaced. For example, it is said that if 500 calories are burned during a cardio exercise, the common individual will burn another 500 calories for the next 24 hours as an afterburn. I've heard that glutamine and bcaa's along with protein are enough to keep one anabolic post workout; therefore, the post workout carb, when fat loss is the primary goal, will not be effective. Also, are carbs necessary for building muscle post workout, or only to keep one from going into a state of catabolism? I apologize if I'm going in circles here, but I just want to be sure. Thanks in advance.

Eddie your over all fat loss will still be maintained. Again if the carbs/calories are accounted for and part of your day you are at the same spot. What carbs do post workout is replace those glycogen stores but even more importantly spare muscle. Carbs work best post workout alongside protein (and aminos) to further protein synthesis. These nutrients do better together than separately. BCAAs can definitely help with this, but carbs shouldn't be feared when kept in check. Fat lose is the goal, but maintaining as much muscle mass as possible should also be high on the list.

Coach Wayne, I have a question. If my primary goal is to lose fat, yet I still work out so I can build muscle, would you say a post workout carb (for an insulin spike), would be counterproductive in the fat burning process? Usually, I do my weight training and I immediately follow with cardio for 30-35 mins. Then I take my protein shake thereafter. What would you recommend I do?

Eddie, after a workout you are in a catabolic state. Getting those carbs in quickly will return you to an anabolic state. Just make sure you are counting those calories and you are maintaining your deficit. They aren't free, you need to earn them!

P.S. Coach - I called BB Customer Service they said don't use the expired P90X R & R. But of course I'm sure they will say that.

Evie, check it out. But if it passes the smell and taste test, it should be ok! The fact that it is unopened and sealed is a good sign.

Hi Coach, I don't know if you'll get this, since your thread was awhile back. Thank you for the information on the expiration date on p90X R & R., I got mine from someone who is moving & it's SEALED & NEW, But when I got home I saw that it expired last month 5/2012. It's June 23, 2012. I will open, smell & taste. Cross fingers hope it's still good. How long is shelf life from the day it was made? Thanks

Thank you for you help

Hello, coach do you think it is ok to use cellucore c4 before insaity and results and recovery after insaity? Do you think it is ok to do two workout programs a day, the other one is asylum, also is it ok to use cellucore c4 before asylum and results and recovery formula after asylum? I dont do both in the same time period, one is in the morning, the other is at about 6:00 P.M Thank you

Hey Mohammad, it's definitely fine to take a pre-workout before your workout and a recovery drink after your workout. However, you should only do them once a day, so if you choose to do 2 workouts a day, you'll have to decide which is your "main" workout that you want to use the PWO and recovery drink for, and which one you are doing as an extra workout.

I just started use the R/R formula and I think it makes a HUGE difference. The workout after my first time taking it, I had so much energy and strength that I blew away my reps/weights and literally killed myself during the arms/shoulders workout. I was at failure on every exercise. I thought for sure I would be so sore today and I'm not at all. I barely feel like I even worked out yesterday. It's truly amazing! I had been extra sore after each workout prior to using R/R and that was with not pushing myself 100% either.

Hi Coach Wayne, My husband and I just starting the first week of phase 1, besides the recovery formula is there anything else you recommend? We get up at 5am to do our workouts...

Hey Kasi! My favorite supplements are in the "my favorite supplements" tab, and include Shakeology, whey protein, and R/R formula. Bring it!!!

Hey coach, I do my workouts at night(due to my job schedule)so I usually eat my dinner, wait an hour, and do my workouts. When i'm done I take my r/r(with protein and kre-alkalyn).The question I have is,should I be waiting a bit before I go to bed?Or is it ok to shower and hit the sack?

Hey Ken, it's okay to do it the way you are doing it. It's best to give the R/R at least 45 min to digest before falling asleep, but I'm sure it turns out taking at least that long for you to shower, get ready for bed, and actually fall asleep.

Coach Wayne! Does the Results and Recovery formula have an expiration date?

Yes Alex, it does. I believe the shelf life is about 2 years (maybe less), but it will have an expiration date on the tub.

sup Coach Wayne. preciate your time and dedication to this program. has helped many a lot. I got a question about the supplements that goes with p90x. Am using the recovery drink and glutamine for my workout. Would I see the results if I use the recovery drink on lift days and the glutamine on non lift days, since am trying to save. Is there a health isk of taking both at the same time? thanks

Hey Kayai, you can definitely do that if you want. Just see how you do without using the R/R after your cardio workouts (see if it drags you down). There are no health risks to taking both a recovery drink and glutamine. In the future, to save money, don't get a separate glutamine supplement. You don't really need it. I suspect you are getting plenty of glutamine in your whey protein powder (you only need about 10g per day). That'll save you some money that you can put toward the recovery drink so that you can use it more often.

Hey Coach, I am currently on a fat shredder plan. 1650 calories, 206 protein, 124 carbs, 37 fat. As you can see, I do not have a whole lot of carbs to work with. I just started using the recovery drink today. Two scoops of the recovery drink have 40g carbs. Will one scoop suffice? Thanks for any advice.
