Chin Up Max (assist)

Maximize every minute you spend on the chin-up bar. This tool gives you the right amount of adjustable support to help you strengthen and train muscles as you work toward unassisted moves.

This piece of equipment can be used with P90X, Asylum, P90X2, or any workout involving pullup exercises.

They didn’t have this piece of equipment when I was struggling to do pullups in my first round of P90X or I would have used it instead of the chair technique.  It allows you to keep your body in a better vertical position, and it keeps the “assistance” at a more controlled level than using your leg on a chair.  Now I don’t need one, so I don’t have one of my own, but I got to play around with it on the set of the P90X2 filming, and it’s a well-designed product.

 PRICE = $39.90

Will do coach thanks! I have a question about fat loss again lol. I always wake up an hour before my workout and take a whey protein shake prior to starting, I noticed that your first round you went on an empty stomach and you are also working out on an empty stomach right now. Do you think ill lose more body fat these last few weeks if i started working out on an empty stomach??

Coach Wayne, For best results with the Chin up Max, if I'm able to do 14-16 reps with the current resistance, should I lower the resistance to only do 8-10 reps or continue to do max reps at the current level? Thanks.

Just ordered the Chin Max Assist through your website C.W. (Coach Wayne)LOL!!!! Since you're the man at Beachbody and one of their best coaches, although in my mind, "The Best", I was wondering if I made a suggestion if you could run it up the chain as I think that it's at the very least a decent one unless I've totally misssed where this information is. Through my P90X journey I've often wondered and looked for inspiration. I've always enjoyed the videos that you've posted on here and have spent hours watching them time and time again. Although I must say, I also enjoy the actual P90X infomercial. Call me crazy, but they also really inspire me. I was wondering if there's a way they can make all of their past and current P90x infomercials available either on Beachbody.com and possibly even downloadable as some of us need inspiration downloaded to our laptop on the go when we can't get an internet connection. It always helps to keep me on track, or at the very least from screwing up. If this information is somewhere please let me know. I do know some of it is on youtube, but they're often cut up into blocks as opposed to having the whole thing in one segment and I don't think that they're downloadable. One of the complaints I have is when the infomrcial with you in it came out, I don't think that we saw it on the East Coast where I'm from for a few months after its release. I've got satellite for t.v., and believe me, I was recording every single P90x infomerical on my DVR for a few months until I finally got it. That's a hell of a lot of infomercials. Last question, when will the P90X2 infomercial come out? It'd be nice if they could put this up on the Beachbody P90x videos as well. Thank you again my friend for continuing to inspire thousands with your on going work, posts, and determination. David B.

Just ordered this from you Coach, hope it works better than the chair/step stool method, that's tweaky on my knees, feels like I'm putting too much weight on it which I use the thing like you have in your pull up video

Actually all BB bands are made by a company called LifeLineUSA.com. I know this because they are based in Madison,WI (which I'm from) I think BB just rebranded there "pull up revolution" as its looks just like that (as does all there b-lines) I purchased mine off amazon long before BB started selling these...if you google "pull up revolution" you many find other options. On a side note check out the product page on that lifelineusa website...I would love to see BB incorperate more of there tools..lot of cool stuff.

Hey Coach. I'm trying to find this in Europe, and I'm not having any luck. Do you know where I can find one? (I'd buy one from here, but I'm afraid of the customs charge) PS. The first time I saw your transformation photos I thought that they had to be Photoshoped... but when I saw the videos, I was blown away!!! Your a true inspiration... :)))

Just got mine and I use it, and I can definitely feel the differences between this and the chair

Keith L
Keith L

Thank you for your quick response. I can see how it would be better now than a chair, because your knee and hip would not have to be bent as much (you foot is not the floor, not on a chair).

Keith L

Hey Coach Wayne, I have a joist mounted pull-up bar in my basement, because I am so tall I have to hang with my knees bent to get full extension. Is it possible to use this product with the loop under a bent knee? If not, would it be better to use this even if my arms were not fully extended, rather than a chair? Final, question, have you tried using a resistance band (not the B-line type, but the ones that look like giant rubber bands) under the knee and would this be a better option for my situation?

Great! That's exactly what I will do! Thanks Coach! You rock! ps....I pre-ordered my P90X2 through your site and I hope to be up for your P90X2 challenge as a member of the amazing team RIPPED!!!!

Hey Coach Wayne, I got my chin up max the other day and used it the very next day for my chest and back workout. This tool certainly helped keep me vertical and push the correct muscles to failure. I really enjoyed the chin up max and I found it to be worth the money. However, I do have a question. Background, I could only do 6-7 pull-ups with the chin up max (set at its easiest level) but I was doing 15 reps with the chair (legs mostly-lol), so my question is, should I do as many pull ups with the chin up max (to failure) and then try using a chair to squeak out a few more or just be done even though I did fewer reps? I have to admit, the day after my workout with the chin up max, I KNEW I had worked the correct muscles, which was a total improvement from my first 2 chest and back workouts with a chair. Thanks for the advice.

Hey coach, I just started p90x finally on friday and I am having a hard time doing certain kinds of pull ups even with the chair to assist (maybe I am using the chair wrong). Do you think this product will help me get more out of my pullups? For example even though the pull ups will still be assisted still, it will be easier to actually get my chin above the bar and work the right muscles and strengthen over time in order to do unassisted pullups? Or is it normal to not be able to get my chin over the bar even with chair assisted pull ups on certain types.

Hey Coach, I just requested to switch coaches and make you my new coach. You are a true inspiration and I love your articles!I am on your web-site everyday! I just ordered my chin up max and look forward to being a member of teamRIPPED! Finishing up week 2 of P90X tomorrow and looking forward to week 3! Be safe and Thank you for what you do to inspire others!

Hey Coach. I just wanted to follow up on this great product! I got mine in last night and I must say that the workout from doing this vs the chair is much better. Being able to stay in the proper vertical alignment makes all the difference. I can feel all my muscles engaging like they should be. I've made a lot of progress using the chair, but I can tell ya that this assist tool is going to speed up my progress 10 fold. Great recommendation. It's easy to assemble and easy to use. If it can work for a 230lbs 6'1" guy like myself it can work for anyone!

CoachWayne
CoachWayne moderator

@Raju1 The recommended limit is 300 lbs. You'll be fine. You can keep you knee up and it should be a good range of motion.

Thanks Shawn! Hope she gets a lot of great use out of it!

Hey Mohammad, I'm not sure what else I can tell you that isn't in the description above, which explains how it helps you do chin ups. Do you have a specific question??

Coach Wayne
Coach Wayne

Hey Lehcen, this is the price that teambeachbody charges retail. You can get a discount if you are a club member or a coach.

Coach Wayne
Coach Wayne

I don't know Harry. You'll have to click the "buy now" and see what TBB has for shipping charges to your area (I don't ship it -- it ships directly from teambeachbody).

Coach Wayne
Coach Wayne

Hey John, you can do it either way. I've done it both ways. Honestly I couldn't tell a difference either way, so do what you prefer (empty stomach or protein before hand).

Coach Wayne
Coach Wayne

Yeah they are on backorder right now John. Check back with them cuz I know that they are trying to increase the supply (demand has been high for them).

Coach Wayne
Coach Wayne

Hey Nate, go ahead and decrease the assistance and get the 8-10 reps. And stay there until you can work back up to 15 reps or so before decreasing resistance again.

Coach Wayne
Coach Wayne

Hey David! Thanks for ordering through me! And thanks for being on the lookout for my infomercial LOL (So was I -- DVR'd a thousand of them). Anyways, that's a good idea and I know they aren't available anywhere that I know of. I'll check around. Oh, and the X2 infomercial won't be out for quite a while. They need success stories to put in it -- which our X2 Crew should help them with!!! :-)

Thanks for the link Doug. I actually have the Chin Up Max by Beachbody, and there are some differences. First, the BB one is much cheaper in price ($29 vs. $49). Second, the BB one has a reinforced clip that goes over the bar rather than just looping the strap over the bar. And third, the BB one has a rubber section where the sole of your shoe/foot goes rather than just a piece of strap. So whether or not BB is using that company or not I don't know, but the items do have some differences. LifeLine does have some cool looking stuff on that site. I'll have to browse around more. Thanks!

Coach Wayne
Coach Wayne

Thanks Tiago! Other than this one (which BB just started making in April), I'm not aware of any. Sorry!

Coach Wayne
Coach Wayne

Hey Keith, with the Chin up max you need to put your foot in it. When I played around with it, I found it worked well for me to keep my foot in it but bend my knee and hip (so that it more or less gets my leg into a similar position as the chair technique). However, I liked it better than the chair technique because the "help" is uniform and adjustable, forcing you to use the lats correctly. To accommodate your situation, you can use the giant rubber bands under the knees (I did that a couple times in my crossfit days). Another option would be to use a resistance band and anchor it to the ends of your pullup bar (it would look like a swingset swing hanging down) and either put your knees or butt in it. But it may be tricky for you to anchor a resistance band to your straight pullup bar depending on the type of resistance bands you have.

Coach Wayne
Coach Wayne

Hey Libby, I'd stick with just doing the chin up max and doing as many reps as you can with it (even if it's only 6-7 for now). You'll start to increase the reps quickly anyways.

Coach Wayne
Coach Wayne

Hey Kyle, definitely. That's why they designed the Chin Up Max. It allows you to use better form but still assists you so that you can pull yourself all the way up without trying to maneuver your legs on a chair and push yourself up.

Awesome Libby! Thanks, and welcome to the team!
