Can you eventually add more than 10lb plates or would that not be recommended? Im sure in the beginning even 5′s might be difficult
Yes Kay, you can add more weight as your strength improves. It comes with two 10 lb plates and two 5 lb plates on the base kit, and the ultimate kit includes an additional two 5 lb plates. I’m sure they are interchangeable with plates you can get at a sporting goods store if you wish to buy additional ones. I’ll confirm that when I get my set though.
Coach,
My wife and I tried out the first video tonight and I’m not sure if it was just our tv or if its supposed to be like that but we can barley hear the people instructing once the music starts. It was kind of frustrating. Did you or anyone else experience that? Overall it was a good workout though. More to my wifes liking than mine but I worked up a nice sweat.
Kevin
Hey Kevin, if you select “turn up music” or whatever that option is at the beginning, it makes the music real loud and the speaking real quiet. Select “no” to that option at the beginning and the music and talking will be equal.
Cool, I’ll give that a shot tomorrow. Thanks!
Looks interesting. but i how long (how many days) is this program
Hey Mike, it comes with a standard 90 day calendar, but you can also incorporate it into hybrids with cardio based workouts like Insanity.
Coach, can I just buy the DVD’s and use the dumbbells I have for P90X or do you really need the bar and weights that come with it? Just curious if there was a way to save a few bucks.
Hey KD, you can’t use dumbbells. You need a barbell. And they don’t sell just the DVD’s (the base kit comes with the weights). Sorry!
Coach Wayne,
I know you’ve probably answered this a thousand times but I’ll ask anyway–if you were 47 years old and were in decent shape and athletic but had some knee issues would you choose insanity or les mills pump. I’ve done P90X and P90 Master series and just need a new program for a little added motivation. Thank you for your help
Hey Derek, I’ve actually NOT been asked that question :-). However, Insanity is pretty tough on the knees since it’s all high impact cardio, every single day.
I’d suggest you go with Pump if you want something new. It’s very good, and different. I really like the two longest workouts (Pump Revolution and Pump Extreme) plus the Step and Core workouts.
Coach,
Finishing up on p90x2. Had decent results only thing I didn’t like about x2 is lack of weight lifting. Thinking about purchasing body pump or waiting till body beast comes out. Looking at gaining mass since I have dropped to a low body fat I feel as if it’s time to build muscle.
I have p90x as well which of the these would you recommend for muscle gain?
Hey Mike, some like P90X and some like X2 for gaining mass. I actually gained more mass with X2 than I had in my last few rounds of X, probably because X2 forced the weak areas to catch up and get stronger, thus setting me up to make bigger gains on the big muscle groups.
Coach,
I actually have lost about 12#(40# all together) on P90X2 and your 1900 calorie diet plan in the first month and 1/2 I am at 150# with 7.5% body fat and want to be at 165-170 and perferably not gain any fat(lol) I know you have to gain some fat along with the muscle.
Have you used Les Mills yet?
Yes Mike, I’ve used Pump back in January (all the workouts) and wrote a review (read it in my article “les mills pump review”), and like I said in my weekly check in, I’m also doing it right now.
It’s a blast to do, but it’s not a mass building workout program. If building mass is your objective, Pump isn’t the ticket. It’s for burning tons of cals and sculpting strong, toned muscle.
What type of diet would you recommend for this exercise? Ive used the 1900 calorie diet and the 3000 and have lost weight with both. Yet with a 2400 cal diet I maintain. With this workout I would assume it would burn that last bit of fat to make my 150 look more ripped( if that makes sense). I really do not want to loose anymore wieght. Would you recommend this over any of your hybrid workouts?
Also I have insanity, p90x and x2. I really like the core work outs and phase two in x2. Not a big fan of PAP workouts. I really enjoy the lifting of the p90x.( I really dislike YOGA all together)
Hey Mike, the nutrition approach to Pump is the same as P90X or Insanity. Choose the diet that is in line with your goals (maintain weight, cut body fat, etc.). I have those guidelines in the “dialing it in” article.
I like this as a change-up to the usual Tony and Shaun workouts, but all are great, so it’s more a matter of what sounds more fun to you!
What I would consider fun would be to lose the last bit of body fat on my abs..6′ 150# and I eat clean on every meal vary rarely do I have a cheat meal and if it is I still keep it in the 500-700 calorie range.
I would assume that I have a hard time building muscle, do not gain fat either and can lose weight to quickly. What do you think of a 2400 calorie 50,25,25 diet?
Will the Pump just mainly define the muscles that I have currently since it is a high repition workout? Whats the difference when using p90x and dropping to a lower weight say 20# on most exercises yet doing them to failure? Will this cause increased muscle definition?
Thanks for you quick responses on this site and it has excellent information.
Hey Mike, you can definitely try that. But you’ll just have to see how your body responds and adjust from there. Pump defines and tones the muscle you have, but doesn’t build mass. The Pump workouts are totally different than P90X, and while doing high reps with P90X will help you build muscle endurance and lean you out, the Pump workouts are a different concept (you work each body part for 5 minute stretches at a time with no break). It’s different, but brutal LOL!
Sounds like it. Thanks for the info. Read about asylum in your topics not sure which one I want to try first. Thanks again!
