Nutrition / Supp Video

It’s been nearly a year and a half since I did my YouTube nutrition video and supplement video.

While much has stayed the same, a few things have changed.  I’ve streamlined some of my supplements, and learned which ones give me the most bang for my buck.  I’ve played with several types of diets and have a pantry / fridge full of the things I typically consume for 90% of my meals.  So why not let all of you see what Coach Wayne is doing for the nutrition and supplements these days …..

Hope that helps!  Feel free to ask questions!

Hi Coach,

I'm about to purchase a Whey Protein supplement. I'm hesitating between the Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard and GNC AMPLIFIED WHEYBOLIC EXTREME 60 . What would you suggest to someone that is starting the P90X ??

CoachWayne 143 pts moderator

Paolo, both are great proteins. I have used both and liked them. I wouldn't hesitate picking either.

Should Kre-Alkalyn be used only on the "lifting" days of P90X or every day throughout the 90 Day program?

Ok coach I changed my percentages to 25p,50c,25f and now I have more control of the food. It says on MFP that in order to bulk from 183 to 193 I need 2800 calories. But after doing the calculations for body beast I got 3100. Ideas? Thanks again!

Ozzie, I'd trust the Book of Beast. Go with 3100.

I'm also considered a "hardgainer" and eating this much has helped me putting on weight, but I just have that doubt about the protein

coach, I have a question about my nutrition. My goal is 3200 calories, so I take protein shakes as soon as I wake up, after working out and before going to sleep. I also like eating chicken or fish for lunch and/or dinner. This helps me to reach my goal of 3200 calories, but according to myfitnesspal I eating to much protein. I'm 5'11, 183lb and trying to bulk to 193lb. What should I do? Thanks coach!

Ozzie, have you changed your goals under "my goals" in MFP? Change your percentages.

Coach Wayne, do you know what's the difference between creatine hydrochloride and monohydrate? I've been using GNC amp creatine hydrochloride and I am happy with it, but been thinking about switching to monohydrate. Would like to know your opinion. Thanks!!!

Cesar, I don't know much about it. It is hard to beat monohydrate. It is what all of the studies have used and it is proven to work. It is also the cheapest.

Coach, I have a question about fiber. I remember in your first supplement video that you used fiber, but in the second video you didnt list it as one that you use anymore. I was reading a article this past weekend, and it stated that fiber was important to take because it "helped" with getting "rid" of carbs. What is your take on it? Should I add it to my list of supplements or not? Thanks, Todd

Todd, fiber is still a great addition. You can get plenty from your normal diet if you are eating whole foods and you are looking for high fiber foods. When cutting it's not a bad idea to still supplement.

Coach, I talked to you a couple days ago about adding a fiber supplement to my diet. I'm going to do that but which fiber supplement do you recommend? I've read where you want fiber that has both soluble and insoluble forms of fiber in it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Todd

Todd, I always used types like Benefiber. Kept it simple.

Hey Wayne, just wondering what you think is the minimum supps someone should buy for programs like Beast and P90X when cost is a big factor ? Not necessarily minimum I guess but bang for your buck so to speak.... Protein, Creatine and BCAA ?

Hey Tom, if cost is a big factor then go with whey and creatine. It can be expensive to hit your protein budgets with whole foods. Creatine is great too because it works and plain creatine monohydrate is cheap. Like anything, if you can swing buying it in bulk, then it will cheaper yet (just a little more $ upfront).

Hey coach, since it is recommended to cycle creatine 2 on 1 off, should you also cycle the R&R formula since it contains creatine?

Trey, no it contains so little (.5g) you don't need to cycle it.

Coach, I always use the max dose of a pre workout, for example if they say use 1-2 scoops I will use 2 scoops. With the Purple Wrath, they say use 1-2 scoops. Should I use the 2 scoops or does it not really matter with a Intraworkout supplement?

Todd, the max dose of purple wraath is going give you more essential amino acids and branch chain amino acids. No stimulants, no fillers, so it is really up to you. Do you feel like you are recovering with 1 scoop? If not, take 2.

Coach, I was wondering if I am on fat shredder 1700 cal diet and am just starting p90x and goal is to get into single digit body fat before bulking should I still take creatine? I plan on copying your supplements you took exactly. Aslo should I take amino acids and maybe hmb? I will also be taking OEP fat burner to help burn fat? Please any advice you have would be great to help me decide if what im doing is going to maximize my results. Thanks

Hey Nick, creatine would be fine to add. BCAAs would help too for sparing muscle as you cut. I wouldn't worry about taking a fat burner. Invest that money in better nutrition. To maximize your results, make sure you are tracking everything you eat! That is the key.

just starting round 2, was able to lose 40lbs on the first round with mainly the work out and kind of following the diet plan. Just joined your team and alresdy can see I left alot on the table. I use the whey protein isolate from vit world and was thinking about adding shakology or the results pack, which would you recomend for someone who still has a ways to go, 5'8" 248

Ron - I would definitively recommend Shakeology. It has all of your needed vitamins and minerals as well. It gives your body everything it needs as you have such a limited diet when you are running a deficit. Check out my review: http://teamripped.com/shakeology/shakeology-reviews

Thanks. I would use it 5 times a day if it would make me look half as good as you do. LOL! Your results are phenomenal. I will be there one day.

Thanks. Would it be more beneficial to my recovery/results to do the full dose after both if I am not concerned about how quickly I will go through it.

Sure Marc, you can use it twice a day if you aren't concerned about going through it twice as fast.

Hey Coach, I am currently doing an Insanity/P90X Hybrid. The way I am doing it is doing the full 6 days of Insanity, also working in the P90X lifting days as well. This results in me doing a morning and an evening workout on M,W&F. On those days, should I take the R&R after my P90X workout, Insanity workout, or both?

Hey Marc, since those are intense workouts, I'd suggest you take the R/R after both workouts, but only do 1 scoop each time. That way you don't blow through your supply too fast.

Hey Coach Wayne is there any potential side affects to kre alkalyn? Do you know/think that it is a perfectly safe supplement?

Hey Greg, definitely do your research to decide if you think Kre-Alk is a supplement you are comfortable taking. Reported side effects are virtually non-existant but I'm definitely not going to say anything is "perfectly safe" from a liability standpoint.

Hey Coach I was wondering if you knew if it is safe to take Beta alanine as a intra workout right after you take a pre workout because I bought beta alanine as a intra workout but heard it gives people tingly feeling so I'm not sure if it is good for my heart to take both a pre workout and beta alanine?

Hey Greg, it depends on the dose. There is beta alanine in my intra-workout (Purple Wraath) and it's perfectly safe to use along with a PWO.

Coach is there a risk in taking certain recovery drinks, are there side effects such as nausea, upset stomach or losing hair. I'm specifically talking about taking whey, creatine and the recovery drinks. thanks Dirk

LOL no risks Dirk. All of those supplements are naturally occurring in the foods you eat, but in concentrated amounts to fuel your body during intense activity like P90X or Insanity. The only thing that makes you lose hair is genetics, steroids, or in my case 5 small children LOL!

Hey coach Thks for the quick response and yessir you are correct with the price! Expensive but a nice convenience for the occasional rush! (if you have slept in to late).

Hey Coach Wayne, Just wandering if you have noticed the growing popularity in the liquid whey protein. They are about 4 fl oz in a tube and claim to have up to 42 grams of protein, no sugar, no fat. Do you think these are on the same nutritional level as traditional powder protein? Seems to good to be true to take a "shot" of protein down in one gulp and be done.

Hey Dallas, yes those protein shots are great for a quick portable dose of whey protein. The drawback is that they are much more expensive per serving than a scoop of powder, so it's a cost vs convenience issue more than anything else.

Hey Coach I drink plain water, sometimes with the orange early rise tang flavored packets. Is it ok if I drink canned Perrier sparkling water? the info is all 0 for nutrition with no ingredients. Pure carbonated water maybe once a week, is that okay? I like a break from the regular water/milk/flavored water.

Hey Michael, carbonated water like Perrier is totally fine. Go for it!

i think its pretty good gives me energy right when i take it, and its not like a jittery energy but more of a push like you dont want to be lazy, and during my p90x sessions i get more of a drive to push for more reps

what do you recommend someone that cant afford the fat shredding meal plan on p90x but want to get the same amount of nutrition for cheap?

Don't follow the meal plan if you can't afford it Billy. Learn to TRACK your nutrition so that you can meet the goals without having to do the specific foods from the guidebook. Start learning how in my "nutrition tips/sample diets" tab above!

Have you ever heard of the supplement called force factor? ive been using it, what do you think about it?

Hey Billy, I've heard of it but never used it. How do you like it? Have you tried others to compare it to?

Hey Coach Wayne, I was wondering if you have tried any of Musclepharm products? Their pre-workout supp Assault seems to be great, it has very good reviews, also Recon which is an after workout and Shred matrix a fat-burner. Just wanted to know your opinion on these, cause it seems like everyone is talking about them. P.S. I sent you a pic with me and a message for you on your twitter account, guess you didn't see it yet. Thanks a lot for your great work

Hey Aram, I haven't used those products but yes, they get good reviews. Let me know what you think if you try them. I need to go check my twitter lol!
